172 Cup Load Sensing Valve Spring

gek

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi All,

I've done a search and I think I know the answer I just wanted someone to confirm.

I recently took my Cup in to a non-dealer, non-specialist for a service.

The service guy said the spring from the load sensing valve was missing and it should be there. I said I didn't think it needed one but he insisted it did.

Am I right? Is the VOSA pdf relating to the load sensing valve on the Cup enough for me to show him, as it doesn't mention the spring?

If it's then added is it going to have an adverse effect on the braking?

Thanks!
George

the 172 cup has the valve there but is not connected so has no use what so ever. So putting a spring there would just make the car that bit heavier lol

if they are going to charge you for it then tell them to do one . . .

to be honest them fitting it isnt going to of done anything what so is upto you . . .

I'd be interested to know too in case they've made it active when it shouldn't be.

didn't think about it untill I just mentioned it. Best to get that spring took out just in case. I assume the cup dosn't have it due to it being lighter, so I guess it locks up the rear brakes when connected.

Better to get it removed then go into a spin ;)

The whole valve on mine has been replaced, presumably with the spring included as you can't only get the spring from Renault you have to buy the whole valve.

As I understand from the VOSA pdf the pressure regulator within the valve is preset at the factory for the 172 Cup. Does that mean that the new valve plus spring fitted won't be set correctly as it can't be for a Cup or it wouldn't have a spring??

Hope that makes sense!

The cup one will be different to a normal 172/182 one if thats what you mean . . .

Yea, that's what I mean. If the one fitted came with a spring then it can't be the right one then? Unless they just remove the spring in the factory?

  172 cup
my guess is they take the spring out to disable the valve. The reason they prob cant get a spring by itself from renault is prob because the cup shouldnt have one so its n/a for your vehicle . . .

  172 cup
as copied from the VOSA newsletter. It's referring to the 172 cup

'Some models have a load sensing valve that
does not have an actuating arm fitted but
appears as though it should have'

  172 cup
also from news letter

'This version does not have ABS as standard
and the pressure regulator within the valve is
set to a predetermined value at the factory.
The 172 and 182 versions have ABS as
standard and are not fitted with a load
sensing valve.'

Take the spring out. With it out the valve is set for minimum effort to the rears and that's the way it's designed.

I set mine to max with cable ties for the MOT and you can lock the rears under normal ish braking, so you don't want it in there.

I have just had this problem when getting my cup MOT'd, told me i need to get a new load sensing valve. i only just realised that the cup doesnt have one by looking at this thread.

Has anyone got that pdf that they can send me?
