172 Cup OE CD Player 'ticking' noise...

  X-172 Cup
The factory fitted CD player in my 172 Cup has started to make a kind of 'ticking' noise when there's a CD in, the ticking does stop and it plays CD's fine...

Any ideas of what this could, is it fixable? - If not will look to replace with another Renault one so as to keep the car standard - any ideas on where from? Breakers?

Not sure about the ticking but you can get the renault oem headunits of ebay quite easily theres always a good few on.

yea renault CD players do this all the time you can have them repaired 75% of the time other times they can't be fixed.

Cheers all!

One more thing - are they easy to remove/install???
I'm hoping it's an unscrew/pull out/un-plug jobby??? - then again it's a Renault so I bet I'll need to strip down & replace the friggin engine before I can do anything...

Please advise

At last somebody else with the same ticking noise ! I've had this for about 2 years . It doesn't always make the noise , buti would say about 80% of the time . My cd/radio comes on when i turn the ignition so this is when it usually does it or when i turn off the ignition .It plays cd's perfectly , no problem there , just that annoying noise .Anybody else got the same problem , if it can be fixed who can fix it . Can the cd player be pulled apart to clean the lens like in a pc dvd rom ??

Edde, you mean coathangers right? LOL
I think I know what you mean, I'm pretty sure I have seen people using 'keys' (not car keys) they are a bit like allen keys but one side is much shorter than the other so as to get inside & behind the whole...

MrBillyUK - we appear to be having the same problem LOL, I've looked on E-Bay and there's loads of head units for sale - I reckon you could pick up a nearly new one from say a 2005 Clio for about £50 inc. postage but we'll see how we get on here first - mines exactly the same as yours - the first time I heard it I sh*t myself thinking It was an engine ECU or something like that...
The CD works fine but the ticking noise is annoying, will definately consider buying a new head unit when it comes to selling the car, it's the sort of thing that would really put someone off the car despite it not being a major fault.:S

Yeah edde means coathangers . Just put em in the 4 holes , 2 either side , push em in slightly only about 2 inches or so then put a little bit of pressure on the coathangers , and pull out the headunit . I'm gonna see if you can strip it down and clean it inside like a dvd rom on a pc . Its worth a try anyway .

Lol , there all comin out of the woodwork now . Best thing was when i told the guy at Renault he said mine does it too . But i think your headunit isn't covered for 3 years like the rest of the car so they would only suggest i send it away and have it fixed . At Renaults prices , i don't think so ;)

I've seen a few on ebay in the last couple of months going for anywhere between £60 - £80 . Mines in perfect working order except for the clicking noise . Only thing is what if the one you buy off ebay does the same ? Then your back to square one ,lol !
