172 Cup rear springs

I have a 172 Cup and when dropping the axle down the other day to fit a new exhaust the rear springs fell out. At closer inspection one of them is loger than the other, is this normal? Basically one of them has an extra coil in it... Cant remember if it was left or right that was longer but it didnt seem right.

Any thoughts?

Just had a look through the wheel arch and it seems that the spring on the left (shorter one) has the yellow and white squares on indicating it is a cup spring, i can't see the same on the other (longer) spring so i am assuming some pikey who owned the car before me put on a standard 172 spring in... sound about right? I will know more once i can drop the rear axle again when i get home.
