172 Cup Snapped Handbrake Cable

Was parking on my drive this morning, and I was putting the handbrake on and suddenly I just heard a huge "Bang" and now the handbrake is really loose, and it only holds the car at the very top notch and the handbrake is almost vertical.

Is that a sign of one side of the handbrake cable has snapped?

As soon as it happened I went to a local garage, and they said I would be looking at £150 for a new handbrake cable to be supplied and fitted and it's a pain of a job according to them, does that price sound about right?

£25-£35 a side, need to be replaced in pairs

cup ones are specifc to the cup - dealer only and must be done in pairs (not expensive anyway)

its an easy job (1 hour max), your garage is talking tosh
