172 cup

  arosa sport
hey there, i currently drive a seat arosa 1.4 sport. i've offered a cup from someone at work. i think there awesome little cars but i'm undecided whether the build quality is any good. the steering wheel is a bit tatty and so is the gear knob. its an 02 plate with 40,000. i've also seen a couple of times the alarm going off because the doors ajar. basically i'm after a few pointers from the people who know them best on what to look for, common faults, and other things to spot.

cheers in advance

Well 've had mine for 2 years and I must say its been one of the most reliable cars I have owned.

Added to that its also great fun to drive.

Had my Cup for 4 years. Only fault was the exhaust rusting and snapping, which is common across the range. Otherwise it's been trouble free.

No probs with the alarm and not sure on the cambelt cost. It's down to luck and care, as with most cars, I reckon. Build quality is not the best in the Cup but they don't exactly cost a lot in terms of performance. It just depends what you want from a car - the Cup offers no frills performance and fun. A good step-up from the Arosa.

In 4 years of owning mine I've never had a problem. Tbh though you don't get a cup to be reliable, you get it for the amount of fun you have in it and that BIG smile you get when driving it 'hard!'

GDI do cam belt change for £350ish for the cups with genuine parts just had mine done. Local Renault garage said £600. Only probs ive had in 3 years is exhaust rusting (as said verry common in all ph2 172's), Exhaust bracket rubber perishing (again very common). Warrenty work for the strut knocking (do a search this is also common across the range). So long as its been looked after you will not be disappointed.
