172 fuel economy

  172 soon!!
Hi, I am about to buy a 03 reg 172 and can't wait!! I'm like a kid at Christmas!!! Now I know I shouldn't be thinking about sensible things at a time like this, but is there anything out there, that doesn't cost the earth, that can improve the 32-33mpg, which seems to be about the norm. Has anyone got anything fitted that does the job??

Nope, and if your like me for the first few weeks it will be far less and two trips to the filling station a week.

Drive it as the law states and you can get 35mpg easy. Can make 75 miles difference per tank.

Dont ask about the ecotek, resistor or FSE on here, you will be shot.

Oh, and welcome

Driven about generally mine averages 34mpg, and on the run to Cornwall @ 90mph it averages 37mpg, and thats with cams and everything else. Its not uncommon for 172's to hit 40mpg if driven respectfully.

  Monaco 172
i havent reset the trip for mpg in a few weeks and im averaging 33.8-34.0 mpg. not bad considering that no motorway driving, short carrageway trips and mostly town driving as everything isnt far apart here lol bit of a difference from a 1.2 but its a lot more fun!...bbbuuuyyy iiittt!

  R35 GTR
you can get 51mpg out of the 172. A few of us have posted this achievement up on here.

I currently get about 34mpg with the 182

I remember clocking 47mpg in my 182 which had a dud of a engine in it, mind you thats travelling at 55mph for 160miles which is no fun.

  Clio 172
on most weeks i get 40 mpg in my 172 my highist so far is 41.9, i just stick to the speed limits lol but i do travel alot and have done 42 ,000 miles in 2 years lol.

Sounds to me like there are too many fairies about not enjoying the dry weather ;)

I talk from a 182 perspective but i usually get between 32 - 34 mpg with the odd spank.... but driving on the motorway and engaging cruise control i've had 44 mpg (indicated traveling at 65 mph over a 50 mile trip) but if its round 15 miles expect high 30's not much more

over 40 is easy if driven sensibly not in traffic or round town. mid to low 30's for average driving

  clio...
ha; I swear, I might aswell get a 182, Only recently (the past month) has my 1.2 managed to keep above 34mpg. I'm not sitting very happy on 39.6. I was over the moon. Now only if insurance wasn't so crippling!

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
ive had my 172 for around a month now and i never see above 30mpg!!

What fuel are you using? Are you heavy footed!?

i never get over 30 either on my ph1!!im not heav footed at all!i think its all the mods with the group n, it pops and bangs alot which i can only imagine is all the unburnt fuel, but hey it sounds wicked!:rasp:

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
i saw 42 all the way to dover on the m'way.

usually 32 ish, and i give it some beans!

saw 15 the other day, thats no fun!

  mini cooper (RIP 172)
36.3 for me for the last 1000miles! don't really do that much town driving tho! manly M way and empty a/b roads! i do give it the beans at lest once a week;)

Can I be the first to suggest (foolishly) an Ecotech valve :)

30-35mpg is pretty much average economy chap, find another 2L hatch that returns the same performance/economy - It will be a hefty search.

£43 full tank got 275miles can someone tell me how many miles to the gallon o get my trip computer doesnt work?

  172
28 to the gallon how the hell do people get over 30 i dont go over 4k that often but some guys on here must drive like like grannys or a lot on motorways.

  MG ZS180 Mk2
I don't go much below 4k unless I have to stop! I get about 28-30 but then I only do short 4-10 mile town trips everyday with no motorway. Usually sit in traffic for a bit as well.

Did have 37.1 once from a 250 mile trip.

I don't think I have ever had a car in to 40's for mpg. Must be the roads around here.

  Mk4 .:R32
Got 47 mpg on the motorway in mine and 50 cruising at circa 45mph on A and B roads. If you drive like a monkey it will prob drop to about 24mpg

Why is it foolish to suggest an ecotech valve??

Because they're completely cRap, they do nothing at all of worth.

I used to get about 30mpg and I used to hoon it around everywhere, depends on your driving style but 28mpg doesn't sound unfeasible.

  Clio 172 mk2 & Clio 3 DCi
i average around 28, but then my trip to work is only 3 miles each way and i hardly drive that far in it at the minute.

Just waiting for the comments about how i should stop being lazy and walk to work:D

  Clio Dci100 Dynamique
How much does it cost for a full tank & what kinda milegage could i expect out of that?

Also how much pence per mile do you think a 172 cup is? and would its ecomomy be slightly better than the full fat version cos its lighter?

Thinking of gettin one see
