172 Magnex

Hey,

I have bit the bullett and gone for a magnex cat back twin3.5 rolled from demon thieves. Its due to be fitted tomorrow but was looking for your thoughts on this system, does it look good? does it sound good, ie not too loud?

Is £365 fitted from demon tweeks ok?

Car is Mk 2..

Ant

I am jealous as Mike knows ! LOL ! I want to get an exhaust so bad but lack of play funds are not allowing it !

The Magnex is a cracking system and I have been in Mikes car and it is not too loud but gives a nice noise when you give it some ! Mmmmmmmmmmmm !

:D

Like Mike said, if you spent £5 to be a member you would have save £30 straightaway.

That does look good.. How much is membership and can i do it now and save the money?

I never realised the benefits!

Did you get any noticeable performance gains and does it eliminate that stupid rattle?

Cheers mate

williams-ant, I had the same concern so when I was staying at Mikes house a few weeks back I wanted to go in the car to make sure it was not too loud before I decided to buy one. It is only slightly louder than standard when driving normally but they you get the nice sound when you put your right foot down !

I dont want a loud exhaust but I am going for one of these, if that helps.

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, the twin looks much better IMHO but then the 6x4 Oval Magnex looks sweet too, I think Jas and 172gal have the oval one.

I am still not sure if I am going to cut out the bumper to mount it as it hangs a little too low for my liking.

Ye but that ^^ looks like its falling off, no offence meant as they all do to me, but that one looks slightly worse. Im guessing speed bumps are a huge problem.

Again only my opinion, if you like thats what matter, infact im probably the only one on the forum that doesnt..

Ill shut up now..

(Dai, how many times have I told you to stop posting before me.. 1 month ban!:devilish:)

Mate, I know.. you got me wrong, for some reason that looks lower than the rest, but I am just one of those odd people that dont like the hanging under the bumper style.. Its a nice zorst do doubt.. just not my style.

I really like blue 172s though. :(

Ive had mine on since September of last year. I chose it based on the fact that it wasnt too loud having had a look and listen to Mikes (hes a bad influence). Make sure they fit it properly, I had to go back a few months ago ias mine sat too far from the bumper and far to far back. Demon Tweeks were more than happy to sort it out. Ive not had any problems with mine, but it recently it has started to get a lot louder. I may have to pop back and get it checked out. Not that it doesnt sound lovely, but more that it gives me a bad head when motorway driving.

If you were a Cliosport member they would have done that for around £330.00, that £5 membership fee will have paid for itself 6 times over at least.;)

Heres a small clip of how it sounded the day I had it fitted: http://www.leemather.plus.com/images/Newclio/magnex.aviClip

Id love it to sit in the bumper as opposed to under it, but there is no way Id cut my bumper as Ill want to return the car back to standard when I trade it in.

By the way Ant. The day its fitted youll think what the hell have I done, as its a bit on the boomy side until it soots up a little.

Id love to know whats happened to mine as its now popping and burbling and making some very nice, albeit a bit on the loud side, noises.

That looks superb! I was a bit sceptical about having a visible exhaust as I like the look of the standard 172s with no visible exhaust.. Mine is black by the way!

Now, back to the membership question - can I join and get my member ship number before tomorrow?/?:devilish::oops:

Unfortunately not - it takes a week or two (have a look at the membership processing thread in the Club Questions forum).

Ant. Save me posted them all here there are pictures of my car here: http://www.leemather.plus.comLink

The earlier ones show how Demon Tweeks fitted it originally. It was to low and to far back. It also rattled the heat shield. The more recent pics show it as it is now. A massive improvement, but it did take them 2 hours to fit and meant cutting a small amount out of the centre section.

LOL ! Sorry mate !

_KDF, you are not the only person who thinks they hang too low. Before I saw Mikes car I hated how low the exhaust sits but then when you look at it from normal eye level in person it looks good to be honest ! That is why I am undecided now !

Do you think it is the grey part of the back bumper that makes it looks as tho it is hanging low ? If it was all colour coded would you notice as much ?

I dunno.. I guess it could just be the angle of the pic, looks very low compared to say Lees..

I totally understand about the whole "dont what to cut the bumper" thing. But I think the way I have decided to go looks standard, so should be able to get away with selling it like that..

Either that or I will cross that bridge when I get to it.. plenty of silver 172s out there just waiting to have a frontal impact and end up in a scrappie ;)

Oi Welshy, well have less of that thank you very much. ;)

Although I did have a nasty dream about crashing the car last night. All very odd as I put my arms out of the window to stop it spinning by grabbing a fence!!!

Did the rear bumper survive ? SHOTGUN !

:devilish:
Well in the dream both sides were dented and there was a big dent across the boot lid, but I think the bumper was okay. ;)

The dream ended up with me having an argument with my grandad about the dents which he said didnt look too bad.

Cool ! I will your Magnex aswell, the car looks the same then so maybe the lifetime warranty will carry over too !

;) :D

I think that dream means you are going to win the lottery...... probably !

:p

You can have them both, Ill just have to get them off tonight if the dream continues. :p Something tells me I wont be in a fit state to do anything though.

Id better go get a ticket then. :D

Cheers mate ! Free P&P ? SORTED !

:D

On a more serious note, I gotta get an exhaust soon, preferably before the 1/4 miling season starts !

Im tempted to go and see if I can get a few runs in on Sunday at Santa Pod, but that means getting up early and leaving there early for the Mids meet. I think it may be better for me to wait a few weeks.

Sorry to Ant for turning his Magnex thread into a general chit chat.

If I bought a Magnex and had it mounted under the bumper and then didnt like it, would there be any problem with then cutting the bumper and mounting it higher ?

It will go a bit higher, but not much, as the back-box would hit the underneath of the car.
And the bend in the centre section would catch on the heat shield.

Better going with a powerflow and getting it the way YOU want.. Burger King Styleee.. !!

If you are that desperate I will post pics up tommorow of the zorst without the trim.. I dont really want to show it half finished but if your that anxios to see it I will PM you some images of it. (and yes I am still talking about the exhaust.. pervs)

The only thing that is putting me off is I heard from a friend that he got shunted from behind, cracked a light and needed a new rear bumper thats it..

How much I hear you say.. !! £600 for a rear bumper + lights.. so at a guestimate that puts the rear bumper, sprayed.. at about £450

PS. Lee I dont recommend using your arms out the window to slow the car down.. I ususally find the brake pedal works better, something to think about next time ;)

PPS Dia, 2400 posts.. whooppeeedooo :p

Ok lee, thanks for your input your car looks great.. so how did you get demon tweeks to get yours to sit like that? Did you ask them to cut some out of the center?

Cheers

Sorry, thanks to everyone for your input they all look great!

I feel that lowering springs may find thier way on to my car soon too
