172 new owner, help !

i bought a 172, 2004 with 88k on it today, i looked round it for all the usual issues, found none, the only issues i have is on cold start up it sounds very 'tractorish' from the top of the engine, is this normal.
secondly the headlights are covered in a weird sticky substance that i cant seem to remove, can anyone recommend anything to remove it ?

Welcome along, when the engines are cold they can sound and feel very rough, but once warmed up the engine should be running normal. just on a note, make sure that the timing belts etc have been done recently too

For the head lights just buy a 3m head light refurb kit , and when was the cam & aux belts last changed

Might be worth taken the car to a specialist on here to check the noise and maybe the cam timing

Mine has done almost 156k and dont sound tappety or rough when cold ,so that obviously dont sound right.I would get it checked out mate.
