Quick question please...

Can someone tell me what needs changing if the rear wheel bearing goes on a 172? Is it just the wheel bearing or more?

Renault have done some work on my Dads car and I think they are trying to cover their arses.

Cheers.

Just the wheel bearing can be replaced. It's easy to do if you can press the bearing out.

iirc the bearing is about 30 quid. Getting it out of the disc is the hard part, might be worth taking the disc to a garage and paying them to remove it. The rest is easy.

check the status of the rear brakes.....

if they seem to be wearing down a bit get the whole lot changed. otherwize replace the bearings by them selves...

Well, heres the story...

Took it for the wheel bearing, they rang and said he needed new disks and pads all round as they were very worn.

He then points out that he had a service/MOT less than 600 miles ago and Rears were 40% worn, Fronts 70%. At this point they said well thy are worn do you want them done. My old man being as he is, said yeah if they need doing do them.

Gets home and checks all the documentation and it clearly says the rears are only 40% worn. Confronts the Sevice manager today and they gave him the following excuse.....

The wheel bearing and Brake discs are one single part and you cannot replace the wheel bearing without new discs. As we are using new discs, we must use new pads.

Is this correct, and if so, why say the rear discs were very worn, why not just say that as the wheel bearing was gone it is part of the disc??

Wheel bearing can be done seperatly, but as the discs are 40% worn i'd get them all done, IMO. "only" £175 for everything from yozzasport, peice of cake to fit.

they dont wanna spend their labour pressing the bearings by the sound of it, amtex on ebay is GSF £150 or so posted with bearings genuine renault parts

probably, they have the option of stocking both parts separately or the discs with bearing in them (suits some meganes too) might just be to do with what they have in stock.

never try and 2nd guess a monkey
