172 Twisted Dogbone

  Clio 200 Cup
I was looking at replacing the bushes in my Cup's dogbone linkage with the stiffer poweflex ones.

Do these makea big difference?

What else can I do to minimise engine movement? (Without totally solid mounting it)

I was also toying with the idea of swapping the dogbone for two large rose joints at either end of a short piece of steel tube. This would still allow movement to some degree but may stiffen things up considerably - bad idea?

Just replace it with a new dogbone, the powerflex bushes are far too stiff. Its been discussed before do a search for details, a solid link with rose joints would just further the damage that happened to my 1.6.

Disagree TBH, we've used the powerflex bushes loads without issue. All the other bushes need to be good too though, seen several that have been damaged by poor alignment (possibly from new) and it prematurely ages the mounts loads

Spherical bearings would totally eliminate any movement and the engine will pivot around the lateral mount if there is excessive play in any of the remaining mounts.

Well with what I found the idle vibrations in the cabin were annoying for a road car, and it ovalled the threaded hole on the gearbox where the dogbone bolted to. On Martin_89's car it snapped clean off, although i've drawn the conclusion that it was because they were used on non RS models where they haven't got a 4th mount and have a lot more load put on the dogbone compared to the RS's where the 4th gearbox mount helps a lot. Even then I still wouldn't use one, the stock RS mounts are more than good enough (imo) as long as they're in good condition.
