182 Cup ESP/service light

Car  172 cup
Hi folks, just paid to join the club, hope you folks can give some technical advice.
My 182 cup is keeps showing the esp/service light, they both go out when I turn off the ignition and restart the car but come back on sometimes straight away, sometimes 1 hr later. Anyone any idea why this is happening.
Cheers

Could be the battery on its way out, I had odd warning lights glow intermittently from drive to drive.
To the point where it stopped completely.

Hi,
I put a brand new battery on when I got the car, original battery was u/s. The new battery can't be more than 6 weeks old.

Where you based marv, worth posting up to see if you have a specialist nearby.

I had an intermittent illumination problem after the battery was replaced, and I took it to Mick @ Diamond Motors. It ended up being a bad earth on the rear lighting loom iirc.

I've been having a look on the forum and think I'll take the car to Birchdown Auto Services. The guys there claim to be Clio specialists so I think I'll get them to do a full cam belt/Aux belt service plus have a look for the fault for me.

Could be the the steering wheel air-bag squib (the wheel angle sensor) or the speed hairpin sensor that's located under the handbrake.

I don't even know what a speed hairpin sensor is. Can you tell me any more about what it is, how it works, what it does? Cheers.

Birchdown will sort you out for sure!

Don't change anything without first having it plugged in. You may get lucky but generally with problems like these accurate diagnostics is more than half the battle.

Turns out the brake light switch at the brake pedal was faulty and causing all the problems. Euro Car Parts replacement was only £8, no more warning lights.

very common fault - you can take it out and click it to another setting should keep it at bay for a bit glad you sorted it

Just put the 182 up for sale in the Cars For sale section if anyone is interested. Cheers for all the help and advice.
