182 Loss of Power. Engine management light on. and very spluttery

  RB 182 / V6 Touareg
Hi, Bought my 182 a few weeks back but only drove it a handful of times as i needed to replace a wheel bearing etc.

This morning on the way to work for the first half of the journey was fine, then she seemed to loss a cylinder and was all spluttery and the engine management light came on and has no power...

Any advise?

Steve

Could be a number of things, coil pack, plugs, leads, o2 sensors, best bet is to get a diagnostics on it before you start chucking money at it. Put the codes up you get on here and I'm sure most will be happy to help.

Seems like your going through the same pain as me at the moment fella. Identified which cylinder isn`t firing by removing one HT lead at a time and starting the engine. Next job is to check the spark plugs and if they are fine, pull the injector and replace.

As Korky said it could be any the things he mentioned (you missed injectors though mate) and without plugging it in your kind of fumbling around in the dark. Which for me anyway is more fun and hopefully cheaper than taking it down the garage to be plugged in.

Hope you get it fixed up soon

Cheers guys... Fella i bought it off said he replaced the injectors recently (on his for sale advert anyway).

i didnt say the exhaust is blowing out (rotting) this doesnt effect anything ie lambda sensors?

Cheers steve

Another thing to add guys... My mechanic just told me he give the engine bay a quick rinse down while checking her over!

can water get into the plugs etc quite easy on these motors?

Plugs changed, New coil pack in and still No change! Trying new leads today!!!

(Also i must add they seem to have been changed to magncore leads and the last owner told me he done the injectors)

Whats next if this doesnt work...?

Get it on diagnostics, if the light is on the ECU knows the reason why it put it on, so just ask it.

Is there a tool / fault code reader available to buy for not so much money that I can use myself to get a code etc ?

cheers Steve

Secondhand rs tuner would be a good option. And you will always get your money back on it when you get rid of the car.

New Leads seem to have done the trick. That and a few Prayers...

However seems to drive fine to the 5k kick and then it comes in ok and pulls well, Just it sounds strange and there is some kind of rattle...!

any advise

TBH "some kind of rattle" is all a bit vague to offer much from.

Check all the external bits are bolted on correctly though, a loose bolt in a cover or bracket can be surprisingly noisey if it allows it to move and vibrate.
