182 manifold on a 172, problems!!!

Im after some advise in relation to the above, have taken the car to my friends garage to get the above fitted and for some reason the 182 manifold just wont line up with the centre section and the decat.

The manifold sits about 3" to the right of the centre section and wont go into the exhaust tunnel (if this makes sense). Has anyone got any advise on how to fit it properly, we have followed the guide and removed the sub frame, moved the engine forward on the mounts etc but for some reason even with the decat it is a mile away from lining up correctly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

what decat is it, k-tec? assuming its a link pipe yeah?

Its a link pipe yes, its not Ktec its the decat for the 172 manifold, he was just going to cut and reweld the decat to suit the link between the manifold and centre section!
Does it need to be the ktec one?
Ive seen the ktec one and even that one would not fit given the alignment issues

Gav do you have pics? I'd like to see where the manifold end, so i could tell you if you could solve the problem with the right decat.

they have a habbit of being bent in a rear end shunt, possibly a bent manifold

have you got access to an oxy,accetaline torch as you may need to heat it up and bend it back into shape if it is bent.

I think that's what were going to have to do the 172 manifold is back on now, will have another bash at it next weekend. Thanks for the advise

when looking at (or rather hearing you describe) how far off it is, it seems like a mani salvaged off of a frontend-crashed 182 ?

I have PM'd the guy I bought it from to see if he had it fitted, and if so did he have problems fitting it. There is defo something wrong as it is massively out of alignment and as Ive said wont sit in the exhaust tunnel at all, as you look at the pic it needs to come to left by about 3 to 4" not sure if using a torch towarm it up will move it that much

Yes Gav, it's bent.I would ask for a partial refund and try to straight it up, but it's not easy.
