182 running flat and using more fuel for less pace

  Megane 225 Trophy
I've had my 182 4 months now and loved it however last few weeks it's been running flatter
Had a good run today which showed me just how slow it is on uptake.when got the car I was surprised how revvy and keen the engine and acceleration was now it takes longer o build the revs and speed and feels laboured.it feels heavier plus I'm getting no more than 25 mpg

I've read it could be a lambda coil pack etc, could a leak in the exhaust cause it? I only ask as I think the exhaust note has changed slightly as well

Help lol

If it's not an ignition related issue, the symptoms sound exactly the same as my 182 when i first bought it and the timing was out. After getting that corrected properly when changing the belts, i noticed that the car revved more freely, pulled harder and my mpg increased from about 25mpg to 35mpg average. Possibly not your problem, but thought i'd mention it.

I'd recommend taking it to a specialist to get it checked, 519 automotive did mine when I got my belts done. Not entirely sure how to check it without taking it to a garage but sure someone else on here will know. If your belts haven't been done or even if the previous owner said they've been done it's worth getting it checked as cambelt/aux belt failures are the number one killer on these engines and it's better to spend the money getting it done for the peace of mind, rather than chancing it and getting a huge bill for engine rebuild/replacement. If it was running good when you got it and it's not now it could just do with a service for new sparks, oil etc.

I'd probably say it would be worth getting a new coil pack and leads before looking to deep into it and thinking your car is well and truely rogered (like me when my leads were faulty) maybe give the throttle body a clean too.

A dirty/fouled up TB wouldn't give these problems but by all means, give the car a service.

If you're worried about it being an ignition problem, rather than spunking out and spending well over £150 on parts that *may* be required why not get the car looked at properly with a diagnostic session to see what the H02's and other sensors are telling the ECM... jesus, for the cost i'd even get the timing checked as it'll only cost you around £30 for one of the many specialists on here to do for you.
