182 Trophy, or 197 cup.

I quite fancy getting another car to run along side my 172, as a weekend track day toy. The trophy and cup are the two i have narrowed it down too.

if you're looking to spend Trophy or even 197 Cup money on a track/week end only car, i'd go for a s/hand Caterfield - fhook sight more interesting than a Clio!

i wouldnt buy either for that if I was you. I would track prep my 172 and buy something different as a day to day car or as Henry said, something like a caterham or westfield

Well i have toyed with that idea, but by the time i've bought the parts i want for the 172, i would have spend around 5k, not really a good idea as it's over 80k and over 5 years old, and worth feck all..

I'm not really a fan of Caterham's, Westfields.

How can you not be? There is very little to touch them for outright pace and for rewarding, involving driving.

I've been out in my mates Caterham a few times, over the summer and yes they're great fun and very quick, just not for me.

I had a look at a white 197 in Renault Manchester yesterday, looked Very nice!

Dont understand why they havent colour coded the handles & bumper strips though??? surely not to save weight LOL

Im trying to get the missus to trade her Cooper S Convertible in for one :)
Or maybe a Liquid 182 or F1

Renault are being tight lol..

if you were put off the Caterham because of the exposure (it does feel as though you're sat up in a casket!), you might enjoy the Elise more. they're well within your budget. worth trying one out anyway

I'm loving my trophy, and at 36.9mpg (average over 200miles yesterday) i think its cheaper than the 197 to run..

You buy hot hatches based on their mpg??????

If MPG is your thing then get yourself a 1.9 turbo diesel Vectra. Over 50mpg.

I'd take the 197 Cup in Racing Blue (as I will in March).

Trophy is a great car, but as far as looks are concerned the 197's flamed arches win hands down.

I have also heard any more nimbleness that the Trophy may have over a 197 Cup (or R27) is outdone by the better braking ability of the 197.
Sure the Trophy may handle great, but breaking pulls the 197 back into contention.

The 197 handles better than a trophy, theres no way on earth a trophy has that much grip and poise.

Plus the 197 uses "easy to get hold of" suspension components should they ever fail.
Better interior, better seats, better car really.

No brainer.

No, but when both cars have similar performance, like the 197/ 1*2's and one costs alot more to run then, imo you have to take this into consideration.

id go with the trophy just for the mpg allone

i love my hot hatches but for the mpg on the 197 id expect summit a bit faster

Seriously; if you have to look at MPG when considering a fun hot hatch, then I think you are in the wrong market for a car.

Just go for a regular hatch or a diesel.

Trophy.... new clios look like some mad alien has attacked the manufacturing plant!!!! 197 will also probably be harder to mod.... more complex electronics etc....

But hey thats my views!
