182 won't start

  182 Trophy
Not sure what's going on here. I haven't used the car for a few weeks after the alternator failed - battery went completely flat.

done the alternator today but the car won't start - it turns over fine with a jump pack but even with a bit of carb cleaner there wasn't even a hint of it starting. I tried a spark plug light directly between the coil and ht lead but unless there's some kind of diode in it (used it back to front) - there doesn't appear to be any spark.

i can't see anything I've knocked around the alternator - the only other thing I can think of is I pulled/trapped a wire whilst jacking the engine up.

Immobiliser light is on solid whilst starting - I'm not sure if this is relevant.

Your battery's dead . I something similar back in September , immobiliser light was still on but wouldn't start .

if the volts are below a certain level, the immobiliser wont go off. You need to make sure you have really good/short jump leads and leave them connected for a while before cranking. Also (sounds obvious), make sure the supply car is running!

You need to plug it in mate, it could be anything from a connection issue somewhere to a fault with the main control relay.

Takes 30seconds to do and eliminates most guess work

Is there any windows software that allows you to do anything useful with an elm327 interface or is it a case of finding someone with a decent snap on diagnostics computer?

I don't fancy paying Renault £80/ph to diagnose it when they're booked solid for three weeks anyway.

It was just the immobiliser.

Left ignition on for a few seconds, light went out and the car started first time :)
