182Cup - cracked CAT

My 182Cup is currently at the dealers having it's leaking exhaust looked at. There's me thinking they'll just re-align it and I'll have it back within the day - nope :(

Turns out the CAT has cracked open and needs replacing. The worst part is that it's going to take 5 days to get hold of one

Cant believe it takes 5 days to get hold of a spare part for a Renault 'f**king' Clio. I'm none too impressed, not least because it means I'm stuck with a bloody automatic Modus for the next week, while my Clio is no doubt getting thrashed from cold to the sandwhich shop twice a day and the passenger seat filled with bacon rolls for the lads

Another reason I wont be buying Renault again in a hurry. How can a CAT just split open after 9 months, and why are there no spares in the northern hemisphere?

Get them to patch it and give you the car back...no way would i feel comfortable leaving mine with a dealer for that long!! When you get it back take it to prospeed and get yourself a custom jobbie ;)

to be fair, if the dealers are worth anything, they can v/o/r the car which means the car is off road and that means that renault promise to get the part to the dealer within 48hrs.
Tell them to nob off and find yourself another dealer!

On reflection I dont really mind them having the car to be honest - they are a good bunch and I trust them (as much as you can)

I'm just pissed that I have to drive around in a Modus for a week :D

I'm glad I didnt just go for the Blueflame cat-back though, since the cat is forked anyway LOL. Might go for the Blueflame after the OEM is all back to normal.

They are saying that Renault dont have any at their depot, hence the wait

Actually it's all unclear to me now. I was busy at work when I took the call. As long as I get the car back in mint condition I dont really care anymore :D

You won't be disapointed with blue flame, go for it. Not too noisy and very good fit.

bet if you ring a few other dealers enquiring if they had any for sale, they'd have a few in stock...

had the same on my 172, but that got through centre sections like they made out of tinfoil. 1 cat, 3 centre sections and a back box in 2.5yrs and they wouldnt admit that it was anything untoward!!

I had exactly the same problem
The CAT cracked about 1/2 the way round just before it joins the back half of the exhaust.
I would guess that one of the engine mounts is knackered and because the engine moves too much it eventually breaks the weakest part of the CAT.
Reno refuse to change the mounts as they think they are ok - what can you do ?
Ive been looking at the cooper S as Im fed up with this crap build quality and useless dealers.

Hmm well I've never had the knocking noise that goes with the shagged engine mounts but I guess they may contribute to the problem anyway. Oh well, the CAT is convered under warranty for 3 years anyway so bugger it.

PS. I dont have a problem with the quality of the car. As Clarkson said "It feels cheap because it is cheap, and it's impossible to go faster than this for less" But, I do wish they would address known issues with the car, so that future owners dont suffer the same old problems.

It's common knowledge that it really isnt a good idea to buy a brand new model because they won't have had time to iron out all the little problems. I dont think this school of thought can be applied to Renault, because in my experience they dont bother fixing engineering issues throughout the models life anyway :clown:

Renault are sh*t.

Certain parts have baltent quality issues... and their dealer network needs cleaning=up.... so just a few small little things spoil the experience...

Apart from that, they're excellent!

ROY: What made you take-it to the dealer anyway? Was your car particularly loud and boomy?
