197 brembos on a 182 conversion questions

  clio 182
so ive found sum callipers, and sum1 to machine, refurb and suply brackets for the 280mm setup. what else am i gona need? will my ktec stainless hoses be okay and is the standard master cylinder good?

  clio 182
how much did it cost you for the setup IYDM? got sum1 down to £300 for the calipers then £250 for brackets and refurb. then lines and bits and bobs i guess. so hopefully come in around £600 (before discs and pads but i need new ones anyway) doesnt sound too bad to me?

Yup, everything is exactly in the condition you see, they were all stripped, cleaned and brackets painted when they came off my car.

will that setup fit behind 15" 2118's?

Yes with spacers mate, its no different to the setup you are away to buy. Its the disks that determine the space for wheels and given that the kit you are looking at has standard 280mm disks and my kit uses the exact same kit they are identical.

My brackets are also drilled to fit mk1 clio's if you ever need to do so.

Random qs and bit of a thread hi jack but would the brembos off a Cupra R fit a clio with a 300mm disk

fairly new on here, but im looking to do the same idea fit 197 brembos to my 182 hubs which i have on my r5, anyone make brackets or got measurements for them or a cad drawing to get them made up? Running the standard discs got williams wheels on my car so should fit from what iv read?

Easiest way in my head....

valver/willy hubs...
406 brembo's(no need for brackets with valver/willy hubs)
15mm hub spacers.
280mm discs(172/182 ones)

if you get the 182 hubs with 197 brembos there 300mm discs(need 16" discs)

If you only want 4 pots for bragging rights then fair enough but there is no comparison between the 406 lug mounted v 197/225 radial mounted. What go you do about the expensive suspension you already might have on the front, change it out to mk1 Clio stuff?

You can fit whatever disks you want if you make the brackets to suit but the two brackets that have been getting made are for standard 280mm 172/182 disks that go under 15" wheels and for the 300mm megane scenic disks which will need 16" wheels.

Well il need abit of good stopping power not just for looks really, Where do i get the brackets from to make them fit undee 15s? Anyone on here do them?

so my calipers finaly came and ive fully stripped them ready for sand blasting, one of the transfer pipe nuts was a sod to get off and i damaged the head so i need a replacement part. can get a custom set made up from 'think automotive' but if someone knows where i can get replacements that would help.

my biggest problem is the fixings, i have a parts list from a previous thread and its;

7711160501 x 4
7711160599 x 4
7703033141 x 4

i was told to get them from wests renault, a trader on CS but i havnt been able to get hold of him for weeks, always answer machine and ive left a message with no reply???

does any one know another contact for him or another contact for the parts?

i think there special order from france because the part numbers dont come up on most peoples data base and if they do there not the right parts.

anybody tell me what they used or where i can get suitable fixings?

cheers

Thought I should jump in :approve:

Depending on the adapters and calipers, Clio 2118s "may" fit with slight filing off the calipers... it all depends on how the adapters are made and the calipers machined. On my setup my adapters measure 15.5mm between M12 fixing bolts axis to brembo seating surface and my calipers are machined 5mm off the seating plane. This results in pads outer diameter being just about .5mm below the edge of the original disks.

With this setup, I had to remove about 4mm off the brembo but just locally at the outer edge, so I ground at an angle of about 4mm at the outer edge to about 0mm mid length to clear and provide acceptable clearance (about 2mm) to the inside rib of the 2118s.

I will add pictures of the caliper and wheel. I used Cup Clio 2118s ET48.5 and these required a minimum of 5mm spacer to clear the spokes. Use of regular ET43 2118s will not require any spacer to clear the caliper with my setup.

my wheels came off a suzuki rally car that i had machined to fit my bore, there 6.5 x 15 and with ET 32!!! i cant figure out if that gives me more clearance or not??? i thought it gives me more?

im machining 5mm off my calipers mounting face's (maybe 6mm) but my brackets have a distance from the mounting face to the centre of the bracket mounting bolts being 18.5mm???

so 18.5 - 5 = 13.5 ?? this seem right?

If you use original disks, the edge of the pads should be just above the outer edge of the disk but it does not really matter as it will only be 1 or 2mm above, it would be spot on if you use 282 or 283mm disk and drum. This is why I gave my measurements cause not all adapters are made equal, mine can fit with little grinding of the caliper, yours will need more to fit the same wheels. For the ET, you are right the smaller the value, the farther the wheel.

  RS2004
They may fit as your wheels will be a lot farther away than mine. You may just need a little filing of the caliper or just machine an addtionnal 2mm off the caliper seating faces or a little bit of both.

  clio 182
right, ive machined the 5mm off the calipers, waiting on the brackets that should hopefully not be long. struggling to get the fixings with those part numbers, everywere is saying that they would either take forever to be instock and then dispatched or never dispatched and refunded, not ideal. looks like im gona have to send my bracket design off to a specialst bolt fixings company and get some made up.

sent my fluid transfer pipe off yesterday to 'think automotive' and theve already made and sent of the replicated pair, £25. service! cheers chip for the recomendation.

They look spot on mate, just painting mine worst paint I've used one minute is runny the next sticky.

  clio 182
yeh i normaly spray them when ive done them in the past but i wanted a thick glossy coat so i used Red HTP from a tin and it was like that. 2nd/3rd coat are worse aswell because you can see what youve painted and you keep painting over sticky parts
