197 keycard....can car be driven away without having key..

Never seen that happen. on the 100s of handsfree systems work. to unlock the range is 1m. to start the car it has to be in the cabin. also someone can drive off but they cant restart the engine at all.

i left my key on the stairs went out to the car for some reason managed to unlocked an couldnt work where the key was its got such agood range

ive wonder if someone could start it without the key just leaving the key in the house


i was mucking around with it at work i found i could use the button to unlock it but i couldnt lock it an i was no where near it (interms of distence i couldnt tell you how far an i wasnt expecting it to work)

Seriously, guys. If your 197 is letting you in and the key is more than a metre away then take the thing back to the garage. It is SERIOUSLY broken or way way to lax to allow that to happen.

Litterally, if my key is not within about a metre of the car (maybe even less) it wont let me in. Like someone said above, if I hang my key out the window and press the start button it still wont let me start it.

Beleive me I have tried and tried again to fool the car to no avail.

Yeah mine is the same as mcphee's it will not let me start it if it is not in the car.
I would go and get it checked by Renault if you can get in and drive off whilst the key is not in the car

Sounds well dodgy TBH. I wonder how many people are unknowingly leaving their 197 unlocked? I'd be interested to hear what a dealer says if anyone take theirs in.

Are the ones that are having "problems" pressing the handle button twice when they leave the car or are you just walking out?
As i always press the button twice. Could be a stupid question but thought i would ask.

Here is a pic to show you how close my card has to be before my car wakes up.

This morning when i took the mrs to work i put my wallet with my keycard in it on the windowsil (i was outside) and tried to open the car and nothing happened.

I picked it up and moved it litterally a foot closer and it worked.

So look how close my card has to be to my car for it to work. You can see the windowsil at the bottom of the pic where I put my wallet
