197 or 1*2

maybe because of age not alot of people have 197's on here, and maybe alot prefer the shape on the 1*2. . .used to always like the 1*2 but i'v seen a few 197's now and they are growing on me. which do you prefer the shape on the 1*2 or 197?

1*2 for me . I hated the shape of the Mk3 Clio when it came out , thats what persuaded me to get a new 182 . But i must admit they are growing on me , slowly but surely .

Depends what you want...both are fun to drive...near identical performance...prices are different though. I'll stick with a 182 personally.

Peronally id go for a 172, BUT they are getting old. by the time im guna be looking at a car with that much BHP, they will be just like the phish1. Old and decrepid.

I also like the look of the 197 now, and with a few minor mods, such as a new s/s exhaust, coilovers or lowering springs, and engine mods such as a decat and a new filter, would make it a very very ideal car.

I hear build quality is ment to be MUCH better and also a lot nicer to drive.

We have a 197 and we love it to pieces. Having said this I think some of the late model 182's still look fresh.

I voted the 182 as I still love them and I think they're more fun than the 197. Saying that though, I do really like them now, even though I wasn't too keen when they first come out. I really love the look of the white cups.

Don't get me wrong, when I first saw the new shape Clio, I kicked my heels in and blatently said I'd refuse to buy one, but the 197 has kinda grown on me a lot..
But a 182 or a 197? ... I'd still have the 182, you got more toys as standard with the 182 then you do on the 197, plus it's smaller and better looking still..

197...an all round better package and thats coming from someone who's owned both.

182's are getting very dated looking now... its now a 7 year old design..

Oh and the fact that the 197 especially the R27 has far more road presence than the 172/182 is a big + for me and most others who own them..

dont know what it is, but i just prefer the shape and styling of the 1*2's over the 197. but that is the same for all model shapes of the mk2 compared to the mk3.

Aye. And i've been there done that with the 172 cup and 182. I wanted a change. Saying that i'd have no problem stepping back into a 172 Cup or Trophy. Only them though

182 all the way. I hated the Clio 3 when it first came out and I still don't like the normal ones, as far as I'm concerned the 197 is the only one that looks acceptable, and it has grown on me. But I just don't think I'd have much fun if I swapped to one.

It's just a complete package, far more refined, better built, more sencible but also more nuts when you want it to be!

197 is still not growing on me looks wise, would consider a Black one alongside my 182 but not as a replacement for. The first test drive I did in a 197 put me off it from a driving point of view to. As soon as I saw the 172 Cup I knew I wanted one, though missed the boat and ended up with a 182. 197 never did that.

Same was with my 182. I got it for £9800 7 months old from main dealer, admittedly it was up for £10995.

Although I see what the fuss is about of the 197, i just love the 182. It surprises so much bigger machinery and doesnt look like it can trouble them.

197 imo, looks the part but needs more poke to match its looks.
