That's result I wanted to see Bit surprising though as every single other review pitching Mini vs 197 I've ever seen has said the Mini is the better car. Can't ignore that price difference tho IMHO heh! Probably £20k that Mini if you wanted to buy it new, vs a genuine £13k for the Cup.

It's pleasing to know the 197 is finally getting the credit it deserves.

The 197 is beautiful to drive on the road and also more than capable on the track.

No wonder they love it so much, along with everyone who owns one.

It's not the new works, is it? No mention of bigger turbo etc, think it's the older one, where it's basically a remap and filter/exhaust change. The new one's gonna be a different beast. Still f**king ugly though.

LOL at the stopwatch being bo**ocks...no amount of finger error would account for the difference in lap time between the two cars - maybe a few hundreths, or even a whole tenth, but not as much as the stated lap time difference was.

Wrong. There are two levels of works upgrade. The current one is basically a chip upgrade. The new version has a different turbo, suspension upgrades, braking upgrades (all at extra cost). The first kit was just a stop-gap until the proper kit is released.

I have to agree with Sh33n there, Mini only use JCW, there isn't a 'Works' trim level. It would be a trademark infringement for starters. I know they call it the 'Cooper S Works' but that is still the JCW.

The only confusing thing i am aware of is that there is an aerodynamics package which looks very similar to the JCW bodykit. It is purely cosmetic.

BMW now own the John Cooper Works name. There is a new works pack, including the turbo upgrade due for release next month. Buy a copy of evo, four page article on it. Still rather have your car though.

I passed a 197 today (not a Cup) and it looked so good, if a little large.

The Mini does nothing for me. It's not a proper Mini anyway.

It is officially called the JCW GP Kit. Over the normal JCW, it had 8bhp, garish body parts and was 40kg lighter (no rear seats). Items like the previously optional LSD and optional JCW brakes were standard. They made 2000.

Remember this is the older 'new' Mini, not the latest Mini Cooper S JCW as in the video.

I like that vid. As mentioned before, the stopwatch is just a prop and they don't use it for measuring the laptimes. Also, Tiff mentioned, no matter how many times he tried in the Mini, it could not beat the Clio round the track. The Mini is the more refined motor for sure and is perhaps better suited for lazy day to day driving (by estate agents).
