182 Spiced

Hi ppl. This is my first post here. Have finally put my order in for a 182 (titanium) incl. cup spoiler! ... I have to say... I cant wait - but im sure itll be worth it (judging by most of your responses!)

Just wanted to say a general thanks to you guys as without a doubt all your heads put together made it a v. easy decision.

Quick Q. regarding security - have any of you guys got any other protection apart from the standard alarm and if so any recommendations?

My first question -

Just wanted to say a general thanks, because without a doubt if it werent for your general questions and aswers I would still be as clueless as when I first statrted looking for a car.

well i havent really spent much time out of mine.

the std alarm is a cat 1 thats plenty good enough

Ive got a disklok, but apart from that Im quite happy with the standard set up on the car.

When I got the V6 I also had an electric roller shutter garage door fitted, just in case:)

the disklok sounds like the best idea so far - ill pass on taking the wheels off at night though :) - cheers guys!

My 182 gets alarm fitted when i pick it in next few days (come direct from renault so no cat1 just cat2 immob). I havin system with proximity sensors added so if someone stands near car for more than 15 secs or so alarm will go off. Thinkin about tilt sensors aswell in case the car is jacked up. Just got to watch for kids messin about.(hopefully u can turn It off if need be).

-- don’t know if these features can be added to the 182 stock cat 1

Also considerin a pager (£50-£100) so when it is parked on car park through day or drive at night you should get a beep soon as it goes off. (not good in built up areas ive heard).

--Anyone got one? What are your views?

You never know you could catch some vermin in the act and polish the floor with their face!

Got a disklok aswell, not much else you can do I don’t think without goin over the top.

Cheers

Mo

If u have the spare cash u can always get a tracker device! This can give you discount on insurance too if its Thatcham approved!

ive got a billy bat, its prob rubbish at keepin the thieving scum at bay but it sends out a message and is useful for road rage or possibily beating homer around the head with ;)

Cheers mate. I went from deciding to get an Astra GSI, SRI, Punto HGT, Stilo Abarth, CTR to this and at the end of it all am glad I’ve chosen a 182. Beats em all

Pager sounds like a well good idea. Any idea on the cost of a tracker though?

not a bad price considering im keeping or hoping to keep the car for a couple of years - at least?? :)

The tracker is probably your best bet. Obviously this doesnt stop them from stealing the car, but you may well be able see it again after they have. Personally I wouldnt want to, but thats just me!

How silly do you want to go? taking the wheels off is a damn good idea, just not practical! Depends on how much you love the car really! Disklok is a good starting point as has been said.

Theres also no limit on the amount of immobilisers you can have. Ive got one on my pug where its a proximity sensor, but you have to know where to hold the keyfob so that you can deactivate the immob. So even if they nick your keys they probably wont be able to start it.

I used to have one of these bar things you put on your steering wheel.Easy to put on,fit under the seat and had pretty good write ups.

Cant remember the name of them but they do them in silver now to match the interior ;)

Depends where you live and how much its worth to you.

You know how the old joke goes

" ill watch your car for a £5er mister"

"no its ok i have a pitbull in there "

"well I hope he can put out fires" :D

Had a 172 with a laserline on and nobody went near it.

The best thing you can do is park it as far away from any other cars in the car park, your worst enemy is other car doors!

Better off with a disclock, the above type are too easy to get off, thieves just saw steering wheel and slip em off!!!!

If they come equipped with a saw and can cut through the wheel with the alarm blasting off and get through the standard security then manage to start it they can keep the bugger.

Like we all know if they are determined and good enough then they will get it.I must say ive never heard of a car with its steering wheel cut off to remove a barlock. They have to be good enough to get through everything else first, anything that slows them down or stops an oppurtunist is worth every penny.

Well i have an immobiliser and Cat 1 alarm.......but i also use a disklock steering wheel cover......AND i also have an Autolock gear stick lock....you know the yellow things....

Bit of a pain constantly removing them and putting em on especially when just nipping into a shop....but the more you have on the more the theiving scum will have to think, and it hurts em to think......;)
