220 Trophy turbo failure!

Unfortunately the turbo in my 220 needs replacing. Developed a high pitch whine/whistle over 2k revs when under load. Very surprised by this as it's relatively low mileage and I'm under the impression this is very a unusual fault! Fortunately my Renault warranty doesn't run out until the end of June, just as well considering Renaults charge would have been £2,259.20!!!!!!!

Hybrid time then. There's a guy on FB who does a hybrid unit for 600ish iirc. Pretty sure RS Tuning will fit and map it for about the same. 1200 quid for 280bhp

I only ask cos mine has developed a strange noise just lately but I can't tell where it's coming from. Sounds like someone is running a hoover under the bonnet lol

Nothing like that on mine, hopefully yours is just noise.

do you let it cool down before you turn it off when you have been driving it hard?

I tend not to drive hard when I'm close to home so it has chance to cool. I'm quite mechanically sympathetic so maybe just been unlucky, can't speak for the previous owner though!

My Renault specialist had a look with his camera and thought he could see a mark on one of the turbine blades, said it sounded like the turbo was on it's way. The guy from the RAC via Renault assistance thought the turbo was fine!

Presume that's what I can hear once parked up.

Yeah they have a little electric water pump down the back of the subframe

they do but I liked to keep the oil flowing through mine until the temp had come down although to be fair i always drove it sensible for the last few miles before I was turning it off!

Aye I drive my megane sensibly near home and sit on the drive for 30 seconds but tbh the turbos are s**t on the 2.0 dCi

Sorry mate, didn't really have the opportunity as I could only hear the noise when moving. It was quite a high pitch whistle over 2k rpm when accelerating at any level, would go away once off the accelerator and wasn't apparent when idling. Quite disappointing tbh! Hopefully I've just been unlucky, don't want others suffering the same.

Renault are fully covering this under warranty, so they should! F**k knows when the new turbo will arrive though?
Renault use Enterprise for their courtesy cars, got a pretty much like for like replacement!

Certainly a cheaper option than getting Renault to do it!
Are you sure it's your turbo? Probably worth getting it checked out.

its either my aux belt as she is coming up to time to replace that or water pump but ill be doing them myself next two months or could be i have a boost leak on join off turbo so will also get a new gasket fitted there for safety then if it still makes it i shall look into hybrid plus sports cat then a remap

Sold the Trophy on to take advantage of the crazy second hand car market. Carless for now (still have her diesel Civic for day to day s**t) plus I cycle to work. Hopefully used prices will come down next year and I'll see what takes my fancy.
The Trophy was a great car but a long way off the engagement and feeling that my old Mk3 Clio 200 and Mk3 Meg gave me, suspect I may be on the look out for another Meg next year.

Sorry to hear that but good to hear it's getting sorted. Also had to have the manifold replaced on mine, had seized on apparently. Only had 6 months with the 220 Trophy I had, deceptively capable pieces of kit.
