36k service - is this expensive?

On G DI's website it quotes the cost as £344.37

I've seen posts on the site with ppl paying much lower than that - it seems some reno stealerships charge less - inclu the aux belt.

Money is tight at the mo and every penny helps. My local garage today quoted £280.

Reckon it's worth paying the extra?

No chance in this world

If a renault delership charges less it's because they don't even knoiw the aux belt needs changing. And this is a cold truth.

Renault even put the wrong oil filter on my car when they carried out my 24k service .. only found out yesterday !!

I got my 36k service done at Benfield Renault in Gateshead.

£275. That includes the aux belt but it's me supplying my own oil which seperately cost me £30 (Halfords special offer on fully synth).

Renault wanted £70 for oil so it would have been about £350 with their oil and belt.

And I marked my aux belt with a felt tip while the engine was running just to check it was changed.

Just the standard minor service I think. depends on which dealer you go to. Most seem to just kick the tyres and tell you the brake disks need changing when they don't.

Basically it's air filter, oil and filter, pollen filter. Sparks are not needed until 72k and I don't think they even do fuel filter.

They basically do the odd check here and there. Make sure they stamp your corrosion service thing in the book as most dealers never bother. Also, if you get the aux belt done, get them to put that in the book too as there's a box to tick or something iirc there's a belts section in the service book too.

And yes, they tried the "your back brake pads are badly pitted, we can change them for you". Cheeky feckers, I only replaced them 3 months earlier and they were fine when I later checked. Also, they said I'd a nail in my rear tyre which they can put a new tyre on. I told them no as I'd get it puncture repaired. Didn't need it as I managed to carefully pull it out ok. Wouldn't be surprised they'd put it in thinking I'd buy a new tyre. They wanted £90 to replace the Goodyear Eagle F1. I told her I buy them online for £60!

My last dealer experience at my 36k service was an utter horror. Again.

Thankfully it's the last time I will step foot inside a Renault dealership. That's going a bit off topic though...

not tyring to still your thread,

but im on 34k miles at the mo just rang renault to see how much 36 service is they quoted me £205 without belt and £237 with aux belt, but renault said to me that they dont think the aux belt would be changed as they do the timing belt at 5 years so they would do both then?

they have told me to look in the service book to check though, will have a look when i can be arsed.

wot do u guys think to this?

Not according to the dealer I used. Monkeys. Why is this even an issue? Why should owners be questioning what the manufacturer does during a service? You pay a premuim for a dealer history. You should not have to worry about what they do.

Cant believe the difference in prices people have been quoted .. 2 hours labour for the belt alone iirc so £205 without belt and £237 with aux belt as stated above is utter tripe!!

It might help if Renault told the dealers that the RS models are 12k intervals, and what actually needs doing at those intervals. Or rather it might help if they ensured that the dealers actually cared. I'm not even going to give details about my 36k as it's shocking.

Surely Renault should do something about this to protect the brand ?? or do they just not care ?

^^Well they lost me after one car, for life. I guess they don't care or else they wouldn't let £20k list cars go for £15k?

Maz, at the end of the day they are not protecting the brand and don't care to. That's why they have such a bad rep and you can buy their brand new cars for penauts on the web.

Anyway this is not the point of this topic so I'll go away and wait for BB to start :D

Me too, i had a R19 16v with an electrical fault- it wouldnt idle when wet through so i went to a scrappy and swapped every component i could think of including half the sensors but i couldnt cure it. i took it in and they had it on their code reader and assured me it was the throttle potentiometer, which i had swapped. i gave them the benefit of the doubt tho as it was plugged in to their diagnostics: £120 later and it was still doing it, they didnt have a clue. i waited till summer and sold it.

I was quoted £214, that was just oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, and a general look over. the labour itself was over half the cost of the quote...bugger that just for a stamp in the book, i trust myself more than them to actually do the work correctly.

They have done if garages/dealerships don't take note what can they be expected to do?

Renault cannot have control its a franchise.

Well if there computer said faulty coes on the throttle what do you expect thenm to do? Unless yu'r happy to pay them full rate for a few hours techies works.

so did 250 become 400 ? total lol :quiet:

No £400 + from Renault .. lol

Mike charged me £250 for my 36k and belt ..

Yep went shopping wasnt too impressed tbh as I only got a pair of shoes .. :(

i no this maz i ment with the shopping u spent 400 etc lol

Well ok. However it all works is besides the point to me. The majority of dealers suck, and ultimately it is Renaults responsibility because the cars carry their badge. Ultimately though, it's a business, and I'm sure they make money, so basically 'they' probably really don't care.

People are still buying their cars so I guess that's all that really matters to the business :)

Oh dear god. It does need changing. And if it doesn't why would you pay £265 for an oil change anyway? Shocking. SHOCKING

It is simply staggering how bad some of these dealers are :(

Its not that overpriced realy epends where it is its not just an oil chnage as you say though.

Dealers charge about £65 ~100 an hour for labour which is about the same rates as many other main dealers.
