36k Service Price Shock! (Reault dealer cheapest so far)

Just been phoning round for prices to have:
36k Service (incl Aux belt)
New rear brake pads
for my 172.

Renault in Bath want £413
Renault in Swindon want £460
And a Renault specialist in Swindon (non-dealer) want £511

I'm quite suprised really, that it is one of the dealers that is cheapest. Probably wont use them as I don't really trust that particular dealer, plus I can't be bothered to go to Bath when I live in Swindon. Just phoned them for a comparison really. Might try and get the dealers in Swindon to drop their price by saying that Bath can do it cheaper and see if it gets me anywhere ;)

Do these prices look about right? I think so from reading other service threads..

And why-oh-why when you ask for a price for a 36k service on a 172 do they not include the cost of replacing the aux belt by default as it is something that the service book says needs doing???

What a joke, £511 to change brake pads and oil lol, f**k renault dealers mate, this has already been mentioned on tv, radio and in the newspapers.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO A RENAULT DEALER TO GET A SERVICE.

You can go anywhere as long as they use renault parts etc they will stamp your book

  111s
IIRC mine was about £320 inc aux belt, no brake pads. That was at a stealers but i did have a heated conversation with the service manager about their over inflated prices and lack of knowledge.

The £511 is the price from the non-dealer  I'm a bit surprised as they were always cheaper when I took my previous clio there.

I might have a look for somewhere else non-dealer who are closer, but I think all the ones I've seen mentioned on here (ren-tech, gdi, etc) are a bit too far to go for me.

if i were you mate id buy the parts myself from gsfcarparts.co.uk you can get pads for about £30.00!! and then just pay for them to fit em or something, services are such a con though, they dont actually do a damn thing!

^^

Tell me about it... Oil/Filter/CabinFilter... in-out, bob's yer uncle.

HOW do they justify their prices?

(OH, they need to cover their running costs... well, howabout lowering the running costs then??)

:S

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
oil filter £5.00, air filter about £6.00, cabin filter bout £5.00, oil change, £10.00, new pads £30.00 thats £56.00 for all the parts which means they want £200+ for labour FUCKOFF!, i had a mate fit my new discs, front and rear pads, brake lines, brake fluid, oil change, springs etc for £50.00! and he did a top job!

I hate main dealers they make me sick and due to past experiences i will no longer buy a new car!

I smashed my front wheel and suspension and break on the left hand side to bits.. i mean bits.. (it was all over the road... some f**king women stepped out in the road about a year back)

I got it all fixed plus new break pads and while it was there i had the oil chnaged a service done..

£330 includeing £25 towing charge cos it was fucked.. and they stamped my book.

Go to a breakers yard like i did... you get a stand up job for good price.

daz...your parts genuine would be nearer 80 quid...+ we do spark plugs on the 36k service as well.

Is that part of the Renault Service Shedule?

What else should be done at 36k?

36k (if done properly) should take @ 2.5 hours...check all brakes /tracking/gearbox levels etc etc...lights/ washers all sundries...
trouble is main dealers have had it their own way for too long...they are taking their time to change with the intoduction of garages being able service cars under warranty, that are non franchised....they can take as long as they like...he he...all good for me.
we are booked solid for 7/8 days in advance...

Well its about time they opened their eyes . Labour rates are f*ckin extortionate , its not as if the parts are that expensive and they could easily charge competitive prices and still make money .
No wonder people go elsewhere .

I had my 36K service done at Renault Manchester. They charged about £250 for the service, another £250 for two front brake pads and discs as they said they needed changing (2 1/2 yr old car). Then when I went to pick it up, thay hadn't changed the aux belt. I went to customer services with that and a few niggles and they did the aux belt for free. They had said it'd be about another £200 for the aux belt.

So it should have been £700 for 36k service + 2 front pads and discs!

just paid £191 for my 36k service on my cup and that was renault main dealer

This is what I dont get see, why do prices vary so much even between main dealers. I mean, one place charging £400+ and another less than £200, for the same thing.

It was the same when i had the skud.... I got charged £175 for a 10k service there, and then went online and found that some people paid less than £80 for the same thing. To say I was annoyed was an understatement.

I notice at the local Reno dealer where i got my car, they have a board on the wall with service prices, and i seem to remember the 36k service being nigh on £400 there. I dunno what it is about where I live, but they all rip you off completely.

Needless to say, I aint getting ripped off again, I'll be going to a block exempt independant who will do it probably for less than half the price, all with genuine parts.

Edit: In case anyone wants to know about block exemption, read about it here. http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/blockcars.htm

  yep.
im not bothering anymore.

just had a 48k, aux and cambelts changed and thats it for me.

i'll do my own servicing from now on!

I cant understand anyone that would pay someone to fit new brakes for them.

It really isnt that hard people. I fitted new brakes and pads up front on my cup, all parts cost me £110. And it took me less than an hour to fit both sides.

f**k paying someone over £200 to do it.

As for servicing costs, they are a joke too. if you can do it yourself then i'd suggest you do. Use renault parts, and it should be fine.

People place far to much emphasis on service history from dealers now a days imo. And most of the monkeys at renault dont know what they are talking about anyway.

A buyer will see that you've looked after your car properly wether you have a stamp in the book or not. Just keep all reciepts for the parts you buy when you do your own services and that should be proof enough that the car has been looked after.

Go private mate.My best mate has his own garage so the parts are ordered through him and he charges mates rates for the rest..
Either way a private garage/specialist is going to be cheaper...
