40,000 miles... QUICK engine!

  Clio 197
I don't think I'm imagining things...

I'm a hundred miles short of 40k, and the car's pulling stronger than it ever has!

Question... could it be the "perfect" air temperature of 6 celcius? Perhaps it's just truely run-in now?

No mods (just a long-life green filter).

Oms.

mine hit 9900 miles today and it was pulling stronger than ever before! gave me a huge :D

Bring on 40k!!!!

Yeah, I thought engines start to get slower as the miles increase as they end up losing compression from the pistons wearing. Is this not the case? I thought the extra speed created by running in peaks once the sides of the pistons and cylinders are only slightly worn enough to make them smooth, so there is little friction.

Can someone settle this please? I gotta be honest, my car's on 43k and it doesn't feel like it's getting any quicker. If anything I'm (dare I say it) getting used to the speed and it "feels" slower (but probably isn't).

Hehe... I've noticed the low-down grunt if formidable at the moment.

I do use Sainsburys 97 - only 2p more than 95, and the car's very happy on that.

Have the same thing ever since it turned 30k its been awsome. The throttle pedel seem a little stiffer too...... You only have to touch it now and its off, previously sometime you had an inch of travel and not much happened...

Long may it continue..!

  Weeman sucks ****
Mine opened up around 40,000 and now I'm over 65,000 its even better. No engine mods either.

Still has a mind of it's own though when it comes to fuel. I try and put optimax/higher on fuel in but it doesn't always feel quicker running it.

I'd like to know if this is an engineering fact or really just something in our minds. It might be down to driving it just right, but only getting this sorted some days. On some days my car feels slow, other days it is uncomfortably quick. Had a joust with a WRX, it didn't get away on a dual carriageway. Then on another day I'm being out done by an RS2000. Only proper testing on a rolling road will tell us the true answer.

At 57k mine is totally different to what it was like at 30k. Throttle response is razor sharp, and it just seems to pull and pull and pull.

The fact that at Janspeed recently, only one (decatted) 182 recorded a higher ATW figure than my (very nearly) standard Cup might have something to do with it.

Maybe Renault did cherry pick the engines for the 172 Cup's after all...?

We got some interesting results at Janspeed recently, standard Cups were getting better figures than the 182s almost without exception. I thought it was mileage but then mine went on (17k at the time I think) and it was only 1 or 2bhp out from Mark's Cup which has done over 3 times the miles.

So its a tough one, certainly comparing similar/identical cars with different mileages didn't help (or maybe it did and there is no difference), would have to get a car done on the same rollers at an early stage of its life and then much later on to really know.

It will always feel better after a service because of the fresh oil, less resistance on moving parts. ;)

At this time of year when the airs clear, cold and crisp all performance cars feel wicked. In the summer when its hot and humid its not as good.

Mines 90k+ (motorway miles) and it's an absolute beast when you plant the pedal so I wouldn't worry about 40k lol

IIRC Cup engines were bench tested at Renault. Bear in mind stupid things like tyre pressures can mean a different BHP read out too...

I read an article about Hondas being designed to perform best with around 40k on the clock.
