406 brembo conversion on 182 questions

  clio 182
Hi, im looking to fit bigger brakes to my 182 turbo and have come across the 406 brembos which seem to be a low cost conversion. im looking at fitting them behing my 15" 2118s so i no space is an issue.

has anyone got them behind these alloys before?

if i was to buy a used set of the 406 brembo callipers, would i be able to use them on the standard disc size?

is ther any other modifications and upgrades you need to make to get them to work and how do i go about getting brackets made?

Thanks

Is there a comprehensive guide for this conversion that can be made as a sticky? I'm also thinking of doing this once the supercharger conversion is done on mine

Standard brake lines fit.

This.

But at full stretch when jacked up. So if your car spends alot of time with front wheels off the floor, i would advise getting some new ones made up at 400mm long.

And they do squeel which isn't helped by people fitting them straight to the car.

Strip them down and replace the caliper shims. It stops alot of the squeelung along with filing a few mm off the pads.

Mine squeel but not half as bad as they used too!

And what needs to be filed?

i have them on the 9 now but really hate them tbh. They squeel like f**k!

@ ricardo
a dutch company made the brackets, they can be bought for €95 incl bolts.
than you just need the calipers and pads...

they'll be fine then as the conversion is going on a mark 1 clio 16v, so shorter than 182 lines as standard so 182 should give me nice bit of slack :)

You won't need any brackets on the mk1 Ben, only 2mm washers to bring the calipers in a bit.

regarding the squealing, they do it during light (normal) braking....

What pads are you using Martin?

Just some cheap tat at the moment but they have each side of the pad material chamfered like this. (if you can see the poor picture)

You need to file a couple of mm off both sides of the pad so when you put it in the caliper it has forward back movement against the shims.

When you say squeal is that just under braking or all the time?

Mine still squeel very faintly under light braking stamp on them and you get nothing, Personally i put it down to the gases between disc and pad and the last option left to try for me is fit grooved discs.

As above couple of washers and job done;)

I got 3mm washers on my yolk,
you'll need 15mm wheel spacers also!!
(I'm using Williams "track")

what mm discs you using coops??

280mm is 172/182 size,

if you havent them bought yet...
look for Renault 21 discs.... There 285mm ;)

or there is some disc from a Toyota that is 295mm that is the same as Renault fitmeants iirc,
should fit under 15" / with the brembos
(Thread on here somewhere)

*edit*
found it :)
http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?717232-Brake-disc-offsets&highlight=Toyota+disc

Toyota avensis discs need the centre bore lathed to 61mm

and iirc the offset is 5mm over standard so the disc won't sit central. Although maybe slightly different in a mk1 due to no brackets .

Also are the renault 21 discs not something like 21mm thickness?

24mm to 28mm thickness is ideal imo
