73 rd Goodwood Members Meeting 2015

Not sure if anyone else is going or interested but 22/23rd March is the goodwood members meeting . You don't have to be a member but on the other hand its not a cheap ticket.
Its really harking back to the special time before things like FOS got really popular and access is great

this year the largest collection of Mclaren GTR's , but there are always loads of great stuff and its proberbly one of the best goodwood close access meetings there is

Live stream here; goodwood.com/grr

They're sending the Mercedes V8 F1 car round in a hot lap challenge against two AMG Mercs at 12:40, that'll be most of their annual noise allowance used up in 10 minutes flat LOL.

Great weather for it today, wish I could have been there but family commitments have kept me away grrrr.

I really wanted to go to this, but by the time I'd bought a weekend ticket and driven down there I could've bought a house.

Was a brilliant , day , very very long , and we did leave before fireworks .
Nice to see that people really made an effort with the dress code and stuck to the country wear theme , with most men in cravats or ties. I really do like dress codes for special events and don't have the elitist view some have on it (as they say don't like it don't buy a ticket)
Yep its pricey , but it keeps the crowds down and as per usual the access to everyone and everything is brilliantly open

I have a few pics in a dropbox file if you want to see what it was like , and i have tried to vary it to show the whole day not just cars over and over again !!

hopefully that link works

ll be sifting through by best shots during the week.

Was a brilliant weekend, the Group C cars were my highlight of the meeting.

Was a great day out and really enjoyed the whole event. Especially the cars that made me re-live my youth. No not the Bugattis but the 70s F1 cars.
Just a few pics from me

I hope they upload the whole event on YouTube like they did with the Revival last year, because I didn't see any of it yesterday as I was busy.

They were on general offer to the public as there is a waiting list to be a member at goodwood
They just priced the tickets high 80 quid a head from memory

So to sum up, it's like the Revival Meeting, but with more modern machinery, no need to dress up or risk feeling the odd one out, and about 50,000 less people getting in the way.

Next year, and in the voice of Jules Winfield..."ah man, I'm goin', that's all there is to it, I'm fuckin' goin'".

Err yes you do need to dress up , very much so !!
The dress code is countrywear or was this year so a chance to wear some smart tweeds :)

Its a very very good meeting but like all top meetings next year will see it hugely popular and the start of its decline .

Get in quick ,as revival and fos are not worth botheering with

Your summary apart from dress code is actually pretty spot on

Really? I didn't know that.

Do they set a theme each year in advance?

I've no problem with going dressed smartly, but pre-'66 can be a bit of a pain and the theatre of the Revival gets in the way of the racing somewhat.

I like the fact that at the MM, from what could see, I could pretty much pick a place on a grass bank anywhere and just sit, watch, and enjoy.

You could wander where you like acres of space (ok getting close to the front at the inside of the chicane was a bit busy )
Access in the paddock was the same.
I had the same experience at classic le mans , spent time actually on the pit wall as well as up and down the live pit lane

Ok years of motorsport means i know how to conduct-myself in the-pit lane but nobody said a word till late on the sunday it was spotted i had no pass

Love having free access with a camera was one of a handfull of people inside the paddock and holding area when the largest gathering of 250gtos were all together :)

I'll definitely be going again next year.

The reduced attendance means you get to see a lot more of the action / get closer to things. It is also a lot more relaxed.

i think next year will see a large increase in ticket sales over this year , it would be the full revival amount of attendence but they will ramp it up thats for sure .

then 2 to 3 years later we will be at a point where its either hugely increased ticket price or very busy .

the same happened in the early days of revival

I agree sadly, although I understand from my sources that the point of resurrecting MM was to counter members feeling that revival and FoS had just become too busy / commercial.

I hope they continue to limit the tickets and keep it as a smaller, more community type event.

This year showed how successful it can be. Next time I'm having a beer with my friend, I'll be making sure he tries to keep to the 'limited' ticket route.

It needs to stay that way but there is still a business to run and reinvest in

oh and mention to your friend that he might want to kick the catering up the arse so they don't run out of rose champagne by 12.40 on the first day lunchtime .

was bloody annoying .

If it's too busy, then maybe some of the spectators should go to Malaysia for the F1.
Which must have had all of 200 people there for Friday, even qualifying had 90% empty main grandstands.
