8Valve engines ?

  Shed.
They still make them ?

i cat imagine having to put up with one.

Noisy, only power is at low revs. Gf has a 1.1 saxo 8v. Utter shite.

Theres still some out there I think. Have to say you shouldn't brand all 8v's the same, there are some excellent 8v engines!

I was suprised when i drove the 1.2 8v clio, not massively different to the 16v low down.

This all campus' are now 16v. but they were 8vs earlier on.

only from start, on a straight mines slightly better. Its a good engine though. it just doesnt have any pull up in the revs.

take two clios. 1 with a 1.4 16v (mk2 ph2) and one with a 1.6 8v (mk2 ph1). They weigh about the same, have same power output (1.4 is 2bhp lower if you want to be picky) and the 1.4 16v is ever so slightly quicker in the real world and totally un-noticeable in normal driving. I would say this is down to having wider power band and higher reving.

Though saying that, the mk2 Ibiza cupra came in 2.0 16v and 2.0 8v trim. The 2.0 8v was the better engine from a tuning point of view.

isnt the 1.4 8v on the same level as the 1.2 16v ? in fact the 1.2 16v has a better top speed doesnt it ? 106mph and the 1.4 has a top of somehitng like 98mph ?

What about my old 1.3 8v 106 rallye? 130bhp on bike carbs and a close ratio box...at about 7500rpm:rasp: would rape a standard 106 1.6 16v gti... 8v old school all the way!lol!

Cant believe i didnt think of the rallye 1.3 8v as an example of an excellent 8v engine! Fantastic little car!

Isnt the 1.8RSI a good engine condering its a 8v...110bhp and 0-60 in 8.7 or something. Not bad I dont think.

I have great fun with mine - plenty of mid range torque and can suprise quite a few cars on the road ;) I get wheelspin in second but I put that down to crappy tyres. On a plus side tuning is cheaper and you can get good gains from 8v engines most of the time and also being an 8v you done have to thrash it to much to get all the power out of it..

Very similar but think its more down to less weight in the 8v, still both slow as anything lol.

  2016 Audi RS3
Don't forget the mighty 1397cc. C1J OHV engine from the GT Turbo.

That wasn't a bad 8v engine!!!!!!

  lift number 1 @ btm
or the g60's. and to really get the most out of them, you don't even enlarge the exhaust valves.

  Shed.
obviously not.......thats the point.

im sorry but 16valves is the way forward lol.

when you get the St with a 2L and its got somehitng like 21 valves though, imagine that at low revs ?

ST? I'm presuming you mean focus? In which case it's a 5 cylinder Volvo engine

8 Valves are awesome fun!

  ?
i have a 1.2 8v... does the job fine. good engine, nippy around town and is more than capable on motorways (80 all the way to reading with 3 passengers) - glad i didnt go for a 1.2 16v as the newer shape mk2ph2's were quite a bit more than my mk2ph1... and its not like the 16v's are rockets. money well saved imho

16v isnt the way forward, is the current... Yes 8v technology is out dated, but still can produce some fantastic engines which is all we are trying to say.

You cant make sweeping statements about an engine being better or worse due to the number of Valves it has! As has been said, the mk2 golf gti, 8v was better than the 16v, same goes for the mk2 ibiza Cupra.

  Mercedes C Class Sport
i had a mk1 1.2 8v and it was slightly quicker than the mk2 ph1 of my mates..barely. Another friend has a 1.1 saxo which was quicker to about 30 or something then fell behind
