I've just been on the phone to AeroCatch (Specialty Fasteners) and they now do a metal back-plate with captive-nuts - to save having to faff around with those fiddly little nuts and washers with one hand while trying to screw with the other hand.
Am fitting some AeroCatches to my boot and have bought two sets of the plates (one set to retro-fit to the front), will let you know how I get on with them but think they'll cut installation time by 50% and lots of swearing.
