Aftermarket headunits that match Clios

Im after a replacement headunit to replace the original in an 04 172. Ive had Alpine in the past and been impressed, but now Im looking for something thatll fit in with the rest of the Clio dashboard. By that I mean, something thats the same illumination colour, etc. The Alpine I had was too bloody bright and is silver and blue - not ideal.

The best I can find is the Kenwood KDC-WV6027 (£170ish) that claims to have an LCD that can be changed to 67 different colours - Id hope theres an orange in there somewhere to match the Clios illumination.

Anyone got other suggestions for headunits that will blend in? Got about £200 max to spend.

Cheers

Any dual ilumination alpine unit mate. they are in black normally.

9813 and 9812

  Polo + Micra

ive got a fony h/u that you can change the colour of the didplay

you can change it to the exact same orange as the dash

its the cdx-mp70

alpine CDA-7893R looked luvely in my dash and illumination matched perfectly but then it died just outside of warranty :( sat in my room doing f**k all :( waiting for the new alpine CDA-9835 to come out...awesome unit and colour match to dash perfectly as 512 colours are available...also will work with steering wheel controls and interface with the top upper display :D

Cheers guys, keep the suggestions coming in!

TBH Id rather stick with Alpine instead of going to Kenwood - never been impressed with Kenwood that much in the past. Sony - undecided if I like them at the moment...

davidol,

not that I doubt you and I dont want to hijack this thread, but how do you know the CDA-9835 will work with the display and wheel control? I currently have a Pioneer which is great but it just looks crap and doesnt work with the controls :(

If this Alpine works as you say then Im ordering one when they arive in May. Regardless of cost.

rolly - 99% of head units will work with the stalk controls, you just need to fit 2 wiring interfaces to get them to work

just buy any black faced alpine, the displays are normally dual illumination which you can change to suit

rolly - I work in the car audio industry mate and just come back from the car audio expo show 2004, alpine were there demoing their new units, all of them were on display with the exception of the CDA-9835...however they did have the new alpine catalogue showing that the unit was compatable with a new range of steering wheel AND display display adaptors specifically for more french and opel vehicles. will scan the catalogue if u wants...pm me with ur e-mail address

Hello,

After seeing this thread I researched the CDA 9835. I went to my local emporium. They are saying 16th April (Friday) for this unit. Not cheap @ £470 but concidering it has only come out £130 off list is good.

Well tbh... If u want the best matching headunit for ur car that will suit the rest of the car and not look out of place, and also light up orange to match the dials... and hell its also the best headunits on the market which is also a bonus!

Any nakamichi headunits!

Ive got a nak CD400 and it suits the car impeccably, so much that unless pplz have heard of the make nakamichi they will question whether its standard or not! (believe me on this one, i get so many pplz asking "so when u gonna upgrade ur headunit?" to which i laff in their face hehe ;)

wish i had a pic of it in my car to show u!

Thanks for all the info guys, and sorry AGMitch, for hijacking.

There is one small problem over hear in NZ. It is hard enough finding normal parts and upgrades for these cars let alone an adapter lead for the stalk!. The biggest hurdle is the mentality of the retailers here "EEK its one of those uropein things", "Arh no there are no adapters for this car - and who cares, it comes with an IR remote". Well I care because I have an IR remote which is great, it even does more than the stalk control could ever hope to do, it just isnt as good when driving.

The only reasons I swapped out the std unit was 1) I already had the Pioneer from my last install and 2) The radio reception of the std Philips was CRAP to put it nicely. And couldnt wait for a unit that actually fitted in with the Clio interior.

The short version - NZ is dominated by Japanese imports, so is the industry when it comes parts, support etc. Put it this way my new Honda Accord Euro 2.4 Auto was cheaper than my Clio - work that out. So I look to you wonderful folk for help - of which I must say you do a wonderfull job.

davidol PM on its way
