Air flow for IK via bonnet vent

Would it be be practical to fit a bonnet like that below to increase airflow to an induction kit? I was wondering whether the viper hose could then be fed from this vent rather than the hose to the fog.. Maybe a design like the cooper S which is a bit lower down..

If you had a vent on the right and then had a sealed box which was tight on the bonnet you'd be in business, until it rained... (you'd need to work a drainage plan for it, as the engines hate the water)

I'm looking in to doing this. I don't think that long tubes of air feed are that practical/useful. I'm thinking of getting a U-shaped piece of metal to attach to the front of the air filter, to catch the air coming in from the vent. It would also act as a heat shield.

Car looks good . Love the wheels , are they turinis ??

you have to remember that vents like that in that location are designed to work with flow through, as they generate a negative pressure differential at the opening, not great for the induction system which works best with the highest relative pressure differential.

Agree.....putting vents in bonnets can result in hotspots underneath which isn't what you want.

The vent in that pic looks like an exit....a lot of WRC cars have similar vents which basically vent 'used' air which has been through the rad and is hot out of the engine bay.

Vents can extract or let hot air out as well as scooping in cool air depending on design but sometimes these vents can create a flow/build up of hot air under the bonnet where it can't get out quick enough.

what about a renault 19 vent place above the filter? would that be better being smaller and more direct?

What you need is a sealed vent that allows the Ram air in, followed by a diffuser to seperate water it it rains. The air will still rush, however any rain can be pushed to the sides and drained.

That would be pretty effective as it has an undertray too to get rid of water...don't thinkthe looks would be good though.

... but I think the R19 vent is on the wrong side, so it would look odd. The vent in the first post must be an inlet one, not an outlet surely. I can't see much air coming out of it at speed? Isn't it rear facing vents for outlet and forward facing for inlet?
