Alternator Issue... Quoted £470 :/

  2004 Clio 182
Hi All

I am slowly losing the love for my 182...

Last week I started getting the Battery and STOP lights coming on on my dashboard. They are not on all the time, They either flicker on and off at random or seem to come on when I am braking hard. Otherwise the car seems to be working fine.

I took the car into my local garage this morning and they have said the alternator is on its way out and will cost £470 in total to replace. Does this sound like lot? I atleast want to know if I am being ripped off before I give them the go ahead or not.

I may have to just risk it for the time being until it gives out totally, As I really don't have that kind of money at the moment.

Is there anything I can do to check that it is the alternator? Any advice would be appreciated

Ta

If your car has aircon it wouldn't surprise me.. As you'll need a new aux belt kit depending when it was last done..

A genuine alternator is just over £200 and a genuine aux belt kit at £70 so its not far off the price I'm afraid :-/

You don't need genuine renault, new alternator is about £120, fan belt kit £50 I'm sure you could get it done less then £400 where are you from?
