An 02 Clio 172 with near 60k

  Add me 2 ur PS3 - Lylak
What are the potential issues?

They cambelt / timing and auxilary belts have all been done 9 months ago so no major service bills to come up.

I've found one up for just over £4k from a stealer, potential bargain?

Any other advice?

Is it worth spending £6k+ on a lower mileage (say 40k miles)

Or spending nearer £4k on a near 60k miles?

I'll probably have it for 3 years top.

Anyone hazard a guess at a Cliko 172's value in 3 years time? :?

at 60,000 miles, the engine is at the best part of its life!

its just other items you have to watch for, such as shocks, drive shafts, exhaust, ARB etc

however if its from a dealer it will probably come with some sort of warranty.

snap up the bargain! :approve:

Apparently it comes with a hatful of receipts so I presume some work has been carried out on it previously.

Full rebuild? What are you talking about.. it probably won't ever need a full rebuild.

High engine milage used to be an issue back in the 80's. Engine technology and reliability has come a long way since. Yet people still get worked up about it.

Sure other parts will need to be replaced but as for the engine, if the oil is changed at regular intervals it will be fine for a very long time.

Lol hes winding you up.

From a stealer seems like bargain to me. If the condition is good go for it!

Sure I read somewhere sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Meh.

He's pretty new to the forum that's all and I wouldn't think he was familiar with the sarcastic forum etiquette.

It's not particularly helpful for members of an enthusiasts club to offer sarcastic (or shall I put it as incorrect?) advice. Thanks to all the other replies.

Sounds a decent enough price for a dealer but if you shop around you can probably find an identical example for about 1k more with half the mileage thats also 5 years old (therefore had the cambelt/tensioners replaced) all depends on how much mileage plays on your mind but 60k is average

This time last year I bought a FF 172 on 02 plate with 41K miles for £5,200, So it think you could get one for about £4.6-£4.9 if you look around.

If I could get him down to £4k from £4.4k then I'd probably think seriously about it. Not much about at the moment.

To the sarcastic funnyman, I didn't believe you hence my first reply ending with a '?'. I'm not entertaining you any longer.

You can have mine for 6.5k (52 172 with 24k) ... cambelt changed and aux belt with full service history, new wheels and tyres 1000 miles ago!

Thanks for the offer mate but I'd prefer to buy from a dealer rather than private so I have something to fall back on if something spurious happened.

have a good gander at it, check the history and see what it feels like on a 30-40 min test drive.

Depends on service has it had belts done etc and what you want I'd have the cheaper car though.

Might as pick values out the air compariable to other hot hatches of the same age now.

I've found another car in monaco blue with 78k on the clock, but the price is £3,595. It's a 2001 reg.

Is 78k on an engine time for big bills on other parts hence the low price? The price seems a bit too low for my liking?

Anyone on here with high mileage Ph2 172's?

^ check its def had belts done etc

ive seen a very low priced ph2 172 on pistonheads for a similar price but more miles

How long do things like gearboxes, engine mounts, clutches etc tend to last?

Gearbox depends how you abuse them could be forever could be 30k.

Mounts again depends how you drive 30k say for a dogbone then 50k for others does depends.

Clutch 30k to 400k depends how you are even hard driving doens't kill them if done right slipping it kills them not hammering the revs up high and matching rpm.
