Annoyed!- Headlight washer leaking AGAIN!!

  Ford Fiesta
The passenger side one was cracked from new, and only started to leak about a year ago. Got it changed under warranty took them about 30mins, didnt have to take bumper off unlike what I thought.

I had already bought a new washer 77 01 207 168, but have still got it as they used their own part.

Now a bit of cold and the passenger side yet again has started dribbling from the hole. It IS NOT cracked though so what exactly has gone wrong on the inside of it? Only noticed it as I could smell the pink renault washer fluid as I walked past the car.

In the package for the washer is a note in french, roughly translated says something about "must lie between 2Nm and 2Nm, excessive tightening may lead to escape of liquid and insufficient tightnening may lead to loss of part".

Could it be that the dealer tightened it up too much and this has led to another fault?

Has anyone changed theirs on their car on the passenger side without having to remove bumper? I'd much rather do it myself or learn how to do it, especially as it looks like it will be an annual thing at the onset of winter!..

Thanks for your help.

Liam.

I had to take the bumper off to do mine, but it may be worth trying to get at it through the wheel arch, once the wheel & liner have been taken off? Dont know whether thats possible though.. sorry.

cant I just remove the headlight unit unbolt that and sort washer, then re bolt headlight unit back in or is it difficult to take headlight unit out, re align it etc?

If not how do I take bumper off?

actually just seena french article showing pics of how to swop normal lights to xenons and looks like two bolts for headlight units behind bumper.
So bumper off to fit/remove lights.

yep the headlights come out by bumper removal, washer units shouldnt be done with out taking the bumper off, i have seen them done with out the bumper off but quite rough i thought 2x 10mm bolts by plastic wheel arch liner may have metal clips as well one either side 20 torx on underneath flap of wheel arch liner one each side plus a mushroom clip it also has 2x 10mm bols underneath car bolts into subframe pull each side of bumper by wings down and out pul forward dissconect washer jets and fogs and bumper is off

Bumper off involves 2 x bolts in wheel arch, about 4 screws in there too, then about 6 screws under front lip of bumper IIRC. 20 mins if you know what you are doing..
Took me nearer an hour though...

thing is though mate they still going to leak even if you take fuse out. I filled my washer bottle over a year ago and cos I NEVER use washers it was still full til the cold weather and it started leaking out of washer.

mine was ok for a year too without using them.
Really gutted its started again. First time thought prob cos it had a crack in it from start but this one is perfect. Prob means will happen every year. Unless it is cos they tightened it up too much. Ill struggle to find a dealer who will be bothered to tighten them to correct torque as per packaging I suppose.

does it leak day in day out or is it simply after the temperature drops below freezing mate? Maybe it's simply down to the washer freezing up?

right finished work at 7am this morning from 7pm last night, went straight up to Renault at Skipton, had oil and filter change me supplying the elf 5w40 oil and got them to change my n/s headlight washer.

Last year it took about 30 mins to do it at Sunwin they didnt remove bumper and you could tell he'd done a few. This time at skipton the guys looked to be struggling, trying all kinds of ways at getting at it. Eventually they decided to remove all the black plastic underneath the car and go up that way whilst it was on ramps.

Have they not replaced a part of it, see the pic- thats from passenger side of car at front.

also while im on bout this, strange thing is mates 182 when you squirt headlight washer jets the passenger side squirts first then drivers. On mine its drivers side then passengers????

huh..

my headlight washer pipe's come from the passenger side, so the passenger side squirts a split second before the drivers side (suppose its got further to go)

thats what i thought mine would do too.

any ideas on how to stop them going wrong again? i hadnt my washers for over a year. but they were filled up with renault fluid 50/50mix.

What causes them to go wrong is there a rubber valve of something inside that cracks during cold weather?

any MK2 V6 owners had same problem?

Had my 182 about a week and its just started doing this. Very annoying as car has been perfect thus far.

Anymore ideas as to why they would suddenly leak? Nothing is cracked or anything that I can see.

Mine leaks when I fill the bottle. when its half full it doesn't leak. So I only half fill it
They not a necessary item anyway.

Well I thought it would save space if checked if anyone else had similar problems, is that not the idea?

my Dad has filled his leaking one with silicon sealant..
as he keeps his car spotless he dont use the headlamp washers
