Another ITB 182

Hey guys,

Thought it was about time I made a progress thread for my car. I originally bought the car about 12 months ago, completely standard with 58k. I was very pleased with the car at first but within the first two weeks I started to get the horrible diesel sound from the engine, so back to the dealers with the car. They was very helpful and fixed the car quickly to a good standard (so it seemed...explain later) I started with a few light mods exhaust, decat, filter, powder coated wheels, carbgon dash strips, ect....nothing major.

I kept the car how it was for a good few months untill I decided to get a rstuning remap. The car made good power standard at 169bhp and even better after the map 177bhp and as everybody knows made the drive alot better. I was really happy with the car for another 6 months or so and didnt make any changes what so ever. I then started to get the bug really bad, I had been saving for a while and decided it was time to spend some serious time and money on the car, after talking to a few companies I decided to go with the AT power throttle bodies with a gen90 ecu.

Dropped the car off with rstuning and one week later picked the car back up and left with a much lighter wallet and 193bhp :) I was very pleased with the car and how it drives. There was a few niggly bits I wanted sorting but im in the process now, after not liking how close the bodies sit to the slam panel ect I decided to fit bonnet pins and remove a large part of the slam panel.

Im currently waiting for my air-con to be removed and a smaller radiator fitted. The next thing I wanted was the suspension sorting as I thought the rear shocks were squeaking bad, im not a avid track go'er plus the group buy on the ktec coilovers and good reviews I gave them a shot and bought a pair. Last week I headed down to btm for the coilovers fitted. Before I start can I just say Fred is a top guy and im over the moon with his service...anyways when I arrived there after two minutes of looking over the engine bay we spotted an oil leak :( gearbox ect was covered, im thinking when the belts were done by my dealer they poped the cap out the side of the block bending it and allowing oil to leak out, fred replaced this for me and the old one is going on the wall of shame haha next the car went up on the ramp and straight away saw that where the manifold meets the cat the bolts was pretty much rusted through, im quite suprised the exhaust didnt fall off by the look of it, again fred gave me a quick fix untill I got a replacement set.

Now it was time to fit thew coilovers all was going well untill the drivers side camber bolt decided to strip its thread whilst been tightened up (wasnt going well for my car that day haha) once again fred came to the rescue and modified the original bolt untill ktec replaced the bolt for me, in the end i was very happy with the kit and the car was sitting very nicely but does need to come back up a little because of scrubbing. Basically that is where I am standing at the minute but there is alot more to come! Hope it wasnt too long winded but time for some piccys now. Thanks for reading!

Because of the success of this thread I thought I'd give it abit of an update, abit pointless as I don't have any pictures at the minute but will upload some tonight when I finish work.

Been abit of an expensive month for my car. First off the cat bolts and camber bolts were replaced and the suspension lifted up abit, no more scrubbing which I'm happy with :)

Next the cup alternator set up was fitted which made abit more room for the bodies and save a fair bit of weight pretty shocked at how much was removed just from the aircon

Mot time - everything passed fine apart from we found the car running abit rich on low revs so Paul kindly look at the map and got re-rolling roaded to 201bhp and 163ish lb of torque which I was really pleased with!

Next I headed down to btm for the vag radiator and kenlowe fan fitting again Fred did a super job of fitting modifying another subframe to make the bracket, again save a fair bit of weight and made more room for the bodies

Now that everything was out of the way I decided to go for longer trumpets and a proper itg filter and back plate, so yesterday headed down to tdf where Matt and sam did an excellent job fitting the +10mm trumpets, the car was tweeked on the rolling road and to my suprise the car made 207bhp and 179lb torque on standard cam, it might just be me but I can really feel the extra torque has a fair bit of push back now :)

So basically that's it for this month just some new samco hoses to be fitted and a new gearbox mount in the next few weeks overall happy as Larry with the way things are going just need to book some track time haha

Will upload graphs ect soon

That sounds a very strong figure, especially for standard cams... congratulations sir :approve:

Sounds like the car has had some big monies spent on it recently!

  Evo 5 RS
Really good gains from bodies alone there, you've got a good one. Look forward to seeing more

Cheers guys I am genuinely shocked at how strong she's been pulling, Matt was planting the seed of bigger injectors and cams but it will be a while off yet happy with the way things are now.

Why was the post removed!

These was no malice meant against the OP, rather a generalised point that the gains/"Initial" gains were so small. Since then you've seen higher figures which now merits the cost! (Ish)

Silent Scone - calm down! Nae need to go all insulting! Ok pumpkin!?

Little tart!!

Credit where credits due, the noise is special! Even when GDi's old one was covering my car with oil/fuel/bits of pistons/rods & bearings...

F**king silly m10 bolts = FTW ;)

Great results for a standard engine, as long as your fan doesnt fall then I will admit defeat.

cant say i was happy about the cheap rad fan zip ties, the ones i normally use are about £15 and bullet proof, but alas Sam is impaitent and ordered them (so its you fault if the fan drops off :rasp:)

Haha that's me all over, still solid as a rock.....Que the "help my fan has dropped off" thread :)

Ps my bay has a grand total of 1 zip tie B)

heres the bracket fred made up and painted :), welded on so that I can still use the original mounting point if needed, the tie wrap is just extra help to the bolts at the top

Cheers man, I do really like it looks a lot better too, I swear sam was saying a formula 1/2 car uses two of these, so it can't be bad haha

Yep its a vw radiator with a 10" kenlowe fan so small compared to the standard rad, even in the hot sun sat in traffic the temp only sits one bar higher then before but as soon as the fan kicks in, it brings it back to normal

  182
Oh once you are driving it is completely fine no matter how hard I'm pushing it never moves from half way, like I said only creeps up if I've been driving hard then come to a stop, but once the fan comes in its back down to normal

  Megane Trophy Stg 2
glad you are happy with it sam.

it did make very good power.

and fred, i made him a Matt spec 'Magic box'. :)

Yea I love it :) had a nice blast down the back roads on the way home haha

And cheers for the magic box, you should stick a tdf sticker on them and charge £££ lol
