Anti Freeze/Summer Coolant Question

  172
yes i know its summer (well meant to be) but my car is low on anti-freeze/coolant, how much should you put in, in summer? and can it be any anti-freeze or should it be Renault specific?

Ive only just bought the car and its very low and im not sure whats in it already, so is it ok to mix?

Thanks Gemma

The correct anti-freeze/water mixture is usually 50/50, if the level is just below the min mark some people just top up with neat anti-freeze, you could get yourself an anti-freeze strength meter to check the coolant strength before you add any mixture, i think they are a couple of quid from Halfords, you could ask Renault what anti-freeze they put in or buy some from Halfords, not sure if you still get any problems with mixing different makes of anti-freeze.

When you say the coolant is low do you mean just below the min mark or at the bottom of the expansion tank?, if the latter there may be a problem with the coolant system either using or losing coolant, top-up and have a look around underneath for any leaks, then just keep an eye on the level for a few weeks.
