Aux Belt issues

  Fiesta ST-3
Basically when doing my engine conversion we have finally got round to fitting the auxillary belt, the only problem is its too tight. So we changed the air con pump from my coupe one to a clio one and that was much smaller so that helped. But the belt is still too tight. When i went to my local motor factors i gave the reg of a phase 2 engine and my engine is a phase 1. Is there any diffrence in the length of the belts or maybe the cam pully has a larger diameter on each engine? Heres a picture of the code on the belt i have, not sure if it helps in anyway

so thats 6 ribs wide and 1660MM long, so get the next size up if its to small, a 6pk1665 or whatever is nearest! That would be 5mm longer.

  Fiesta ST-3
Would that solve the issue? Im not sure if 5mm would be enough and i dont really want to buy half a dozen belts at £15 a pop

Probably not they can be rather funny about it. If you could find out mate that would be ace. Phase 1 172 engine.

I have the 6pk1660 on my ph1, and it fitted fine, are you sure the belt is running the correct route and the tensioner is fitted correctly?

the tensioner can be REALLY awkward sometimes. You have to get the belt down one side of the tensioner pulley before fully de-tensioning, or it wont slip on unless you're very very lucky

Ive had the belt on and the tensioner fouls it on the PAS pump. The belt is so tight it presses the tensioner onto the PAS pump if that makes sence.

undo the upper alternator bolt and pull it down, makes life easier, what "tool" are you using to fit the belt? is the engine in the car or on the floor?

  Fiesta ST-3
Engine is in the car well a megane coupe so loads of room to work on it. We have had the belt on but the tensioner is bent not straight as the belt is so tight....

Had exactly the same issue with my 172 a few weeks ago by the sound of it, turned out to be the tensioner spring had streched about 1/2" and caused it to not tension properly- was only 500 miles old too:(. New tensioner assembly sorted it mate.

Pic just to confirm same problem?
