Battery Kill Switch

Hi guys,

I’ve recently installed the odessey PC680 battery behind my passenger seat, and I want to run a cut off switch for it now to stop it going flat.

My question is am I okay to run a line from the positive side of the battery to one side of the kill switch and then just run a normal earth on the other side of the kill switch? This should create a “break” in the electric circuit when the key is pulled out of the cut off. Is this all correct or am I completely wrong?

I would imagine the kill switch would be mounted on the negative side.

If anything happened on the positive side, it could create a short to ground which isn't ideal.

So pretty much run a line from the negative side of the battery to the kill switch? That’s it?

I would say so, I've never wired one.

There should be some instructions with the one you buy.
Unfortunately it didn’t come with any. This is the closest diagram I could find.

Yes.

• original earth point to switch
• other side of switch to negative terminal on battery

You'll want a fused junction box if you're relocating the battery as well.

Mount it near the stock battery location then run your cables to and from that.

If you search battery relocation kits on eBay you'll see what I mean.

Gents - The yellow line is the wire that will be run from the negative side to the cut off switch. The red line will be the original earth point for the other side of the switch. All look good?

You’re confusing me now. Just to be clear on what I said.
  1. Your original negative in the engine bay, earth that somewhere in the bay.
  2. Wire one side of your new switch to the negative terminal on the new battery
  3. Wire the other side of the switch to a new earth point

Got it. Thanks!

can’t really see on the pics, but I used one of the original seat mounts for my earth point along the loom.
