BHP ON 172 FF What you think ?



Why is it i've been reading on here that the mk2 172's only produce around 168bhp ?

When there meant to be 172bhp ?

I have a k&n panel filter and stainless stealth powerflow system with de-cat now (yippee;) )

Got fitted today cost 80 quid ;)

What do you guys think i'll be sitting at powerwise now ?

169 bhp ? ?

my christal ball says 176 bhp lol,
you'll get roughly 10ish bhp with zoust & de-cat & filter.

I ran 172 as std at Wallace performance, and after decat, headwork, inlets, remap, zorst and remap it was 192.6! :)

I think you'll run about 175?! circa.

I ran 172 as std at Wallace performance, and after decat, headwork, inlets, remap, zorst and remap it was 192.6! :)

I think you'll run about 175?! circa.

My 172FF ran 162.4bhp on the last RR day and it was completely standard.Not bad result i thought.

Their not always bang on accurate but give a decent guide to what your cars doing what and when


No, RRs are sh*te (for getting figures :rasp:) , you're right about "what your car is doing what and when" though (power curves etc), they're good for that, but peak fly figures are just plucked out the air at random on RRs. I've seen the same 100bhp car (in the same state of tune) get results varying by as much as 20bhp on different RRs.

192 bhp's not bad for 172, but it kept up with CTR's ? :)

How much was yer inlets, remap and headwork mate ?

And who done it all ?

All seems around 165-170 :(

Is it there ability to rev to 9000rpm and us 172's up to 7000rpm in standard form before any remap ?

You can remap to any limit you want the engine won't hold together though.

I know of one engine went to 8.5k with a remap or so on the first few runs messed up the engine (not massivly though)

Ahe engine as stock doesn't make any power higher up hence the limit doens't need to be chnaged for power gains plus it won't hold together if its reved to Honda RPM levels.

As8.5 rpms off rev counter unless it was an external add on.

I think its just damaged the coils but after a recomendation he had the limiter brough down.

It was mapped to do that as you say its off the clock but when programmed you can work out what limit you want.

Most limit them to 8k personaly 7.5 would be my limit. Infact The stock limiter is there since sustained use (stock) beyond that will kill the engine.

Where about are you ther chipwizards up north and Pmurry in Leeds.

Easily beat type R's. There was a long list of cars my old 172 beat. S3's, LCR's, GTi's!

Inlets were cheaper bak in the day, Ben's put his prices up a fair bit! Headwork was free and remap was 245£

S3, LCR and type r killer how sweet;) bet it gave a few folk a shock ?

But wouldn't it just spin more than normal with the more power ?

And what Gti's did you beat ?

New Golfs or PUGS ?


Anyway whats the inlets prices up to now ?:S

And sorry if this sounds bad, but what is inlets ?

Is it the throttle or inlet manifold thats been beefed up(bored out) or polished inside for more flow?

And how come your headwork was free ? :S

inlets = matching/polishing the bores between the inlet manifold and inlet plenum.. less turbulent air - faster flow - more power..

have a look on the angleworks website, ben is meant to be the best at this type of work..

Remap = see pmurray on here.. (paul from RSTunning in leeds)

well the rr hawkeye got 163, morky's went on which has inlets,IK,182 manifold (heat wrapped),decat, magnex and bb group n ecu and his only pulled 173 out 10 bhp with all those mods
