Cycled the 28 miles over to near Cambridge today to collect the Clio and it was simply Wonderful... Sun shining, bit of frost on the fields... I felt like bloody Forest Gump when he was running across the USA!! 😂

The bike ride was well worth it, the little Clio looked proper resplendent!!!

Disassembled the bike, and it fitted into the back of the Clio a treat! Never put it in there before:

Talking of bikes, the detailed had a brand new limited edition Ducati carbon fibre superdoopa bike in for some PPF coating... meant nothing to me, but I’m sure to you bikers, this may well be a BIG thing... he said it was worth £32K!!

Daily drive.....pfffft yeah right 🤪

Got it all done so I can drive and enjoy it round Badgerland this weekend.. 8:00am tomorrow morning, we set off to Ashbourne.

Mind you, whilst re-assembling the front bumper this morning, I saw the new JR Driveshaft has split it’s inner CV boot, so it’s deposited a nice load of axle grease all over the car... #renaultlife 🙄🙄🙄

Well @Coops Mk1 does not speak with forked tongue 🐍 Had a flippin awesome bank holiday weekend driving around the Derbyshire Dales in the Clio and she just relished it:

It has certainly made an impression on me this little car, so much so I even gave it a clean when I got home this evening to get all the dust and dead bugs off it.

Finished cleaning it and then moved it back into its parking space and the STOP 🛑 and Battery light were on Permanent Red! Scratched head a little and then saw that the positive cable from the alternator had totally snapped off it’s termination... all whilst I was cleaning it...!? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Quick termination of a new ring I had and problem solved, just pleased it didn’t decide to do it whilst I was driving it all weekend.

What with all the excitement and Love going into the new Clio Raider, my wife and I, took the little blue fighter out for a drive this afternoon.

Still love this little car VERY much and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Purely by chance, this evening I got an update on the replacement gearbox from @NorthloopCup to fix the 5th gear crunchy crunchy synchro!!

I’ll let Mark’s text and pictures do the talking:

Knackered main shaft bearing replaced:

Replacement 2nd gear synchro and selector hub:

The new spangly Quaife Diff ready to go in 😎:

Fully built up mainshaft with new synchros and bearings:

All getting assembled together:

On goes 5th gear:

Then the end cap and she’s all back together:

I’ll give it some loving with the degreaser and a quick flick over with some silver paint and she should be as good as new again.

Now the nice weather is hopefully going to make an appearance, I’ll be able to get the old gearbox out with the engine, and this fitted back in.

Thanks for reading 😎

Took the Clio out for an hour this evening to warm up the fluids and make sure she was still running well.

WOW, Just WOW….

I’ve got to say, it’s a better and more involving drive than the Clio Raider… and with the cheeky mods I’ve done to it, think it’s actually faster as well…

Fallen back in love with it, just in time for its MOT on Monday..

Fitted new JR Driveshafts to this car when I rebuilt it… and true to form, the flippin inner CV Boot split as it must have made contact with the corner of the engine block.. I did cut down the engine block to try & minimise the contact, but obviously didn’t work..
6DA302A3-36BF-450C-B37C-60B2C479E697.jpeg

So I ordered a new SNR Driveshaft from the chaps at AUTODOC and it’s EXCELLENT!!! Exactly OEM Spec with the smaller inner CV Boot that doesn’t go anywhere near the engine block.

Took a comparison picture for reference:

And a picture of the AUTODOC reference if anyone else it looking for one:

Took it for MOT today, and she sailed thru ⛵️

I’ve been getting into biking over summer 🚴‍♂️ and have obtained all the gear... but as they saying goes.. still missing the idea 😆.

Ive been looking at options of how I can mount a bike on the roof of my Megane so I can take the bike away easily without disassembling it all and then putting it in the back.

Had a couple of great rides along the coast this year in Kent and Gt Yarmouth so I’ve certainly got the bug for it.

So why am I telling you all this in my Clio 182 Thread?? Well along with looking At roof rack options for my Meggy, I also started to have a tentative look for kit for my Clio as well.

Found a dedicated Thule Foot mount kit on eBay for the Clio for 14.99 so had a punt on that, and then it all spiralled from there looking for the common Thule 754 Foot kit to go with it, bars bike mounts etc..

A bloke in Peterborough I saw was advertising the Thule 754 foot kit on eBay so I made a cheeky offer of £35 which he accepted so I toddled round to pick it up. Whilst there he asks me if I’ve got bars, and bike mounts...?

Needless to say, a bit of negotiations and £150 later, I left with everything else I needed to mount 2 bikes to the roof of the Clio.

Today I finally got all the bits together and mounted it all on the roof of the Clio in the poxy rain.. 🌧

For anyone like me who’s not had any experience of Thule roof racks before, let me tell you their kit is excellent and really fits well to the car!!

The feet are specifically moulded to your car (so long as you get the right kit) and when clamped up with the supplied basic torque wrench, it really does get a good hold of your car roof!

I got aero roof bars, which the catalogue says aren’t available for this car, but they fit a treat!
View attachment 1499101

So the next time the sun ☀️ comes out... or at least it’s not raining like FOOOK I’ll get the old girl all packed up and go for a little ride out..!!

Thanks for reading 🚴‍♂️
What width bars did you get?

With the impending ClioSport Festival next month, I’ve decided to get rid of the crunch as I shift into 5th, I’ve had ever since I’ve rebuilt the car.

Oh and the fact I’d like to enjoy the track-time at Blyton with a gearbox with a nice new Quaife Locking Differential in it… 😉

I’m not going to do the work myself, Chris at Beaniesport has been good enough to squeeze me in ahead of the Festival, so I now want to get the gearbox cleaned up and prepared to go into the car.

First I cleaned and degreased the gearbox with some Autoglym Machine Cleaner:

Then mask it up 😷 :

Then a quick kick of primer 👅

Car dropped off with Chris at Beaniesport for him to fit the gearbox and change the Dephaser Pulley.

He tore into at great speed, and has already got the Gearbox out, and is now onto changing the Dephaser with the new spangly timing tools from Pure Motorsport:

RB Clio collected from Chris and the fabulous team at Beaniesport today following the freshly rebuilt gearbox fitted with a Quaife Locking Differential built up by @NorthloopCup

WOW…. just WOW!! In the short traffic filled drive home I had, I could feel the diff doing it’s thing… car feels even more spot on!!

The gearbox just feels so tight and brand new!! No whining or funny noises, thanks very much for your help @NorthloopCup 👍👍👍

Chris found a few loose bolts and small bits & pieces he sorted for me whilst he had the car. Fabulous service, and I’ll certainly be returning to Beaniesport!!

Bring on Blyton!!

Got the Air Conditioning re-gassed:
526719C0-8F3E-4936-959D-B065CD34A550.jpeg

and even though the car has had EVERYTHING brand new within the engine bay
  • Compressor
  • Condenser
  • Pipework
  • Resevior
The A/C is still not exactly blowing MEGA COLD 🥶….

So a question to the 3 people that read this thread:

1) Is the A/C on these MK2 Clio’s just generally p1ss poor..?
2) Or is there some truth in the suggestion from the mechanic, that I should change the Evaporator in the heater box in the scuttle… he suggests it might be blocked, as it was open to the Elements for some time…?

Mines pretty good to be fair Steve, I mean it was last year. Will see on the run up to CS I guess.

I got a new compressor (and other leaks fixed) on my 172 before Xmas - in Sydney - moved to Brisbane where things get really hot - and it’s pretty good.

Steve, I pulled the Clio out the shed today to get a few bits done before CSF. Turned ac on and no cold air. Luckily I was on way to my mechanic who pressure tested the system and regassed. He was shocked at the amount of gas needed for a Clio! Anyway system filled and it’s proper icy cold mate, as good as most modern ac I’d say

Took Clio to the ClioSport festival at Blyton Park last weekend, and primarily gave it to my wife to drive for the day.

She’s done plenty of trackdays with me, but always as a secondary driver, she’s never had the chance to really get stuck in herself.

So she got all prepared for the sighting lap, and out she went:
DD27BEA6-A54D-425C-98D2-DB36C1E4C9EE.jpeg

And I made sure she was prepared with a NOVICE X on the back of the car to warn other drivers:
4106033A-7B80-4305-9F98-0F7B070E4EA7.jpeg

She then went out and did the first 15 minute novice session, and really got on well.
BBF19B5F-7920-4DFD-9D82-24F036F9E4D3.jpeg

When she came in, I’d organised a 30 minute session with an instructor, so I sent her out again, and could see he was really helping her learn the track, and build her confidence:
60FB8998-F5F6-45BE-9430-FFD031BDFFA1.jpeg

She then sent the rest of the day, thrashing the car round the track, and absolutely loved it!! Thanks to all you other drivers for making room for her!!
5ABFCF2D-CA17-4136-AC43-FB078852406F.jpeg

I managed to get out for a couple of laps in the car in the afternoon:
E72363C1-8BAB-4393-BEDF-8F26574FC439.jpeg

But ended up driving my Clio Raider more:
5D1DCDD7-23E9-42D2-AEEC-01A0FBEF3DA1.jpeg

Have to say, the Clio 182 is MUCH more the fun car to drive on the track, especially with the Quaife Differential fitted!! I asked @Adey. if he fancied a drive of both cars, and he took me up on the offer:
590D18C5-85D7-4722-8521-A6D4F26C4211.jpeg

When he came in after driving the Clio 182 he was just raving about it, which I was really chuffed about.
Following a drive in the Clio Raider, he said he could feel it was improved.. but needed more power. Which gets me thinking….. 😆

My thoughts are similar regards the two.

I would keep the 200 if I had to get rid of one of my clios (172 & 200) as the 200 feels much better handling to me but sheesh I wish the engine felt better.

It’s just got such a weird/wooly feel as it revs compared to the 172.

I don’t even want more power (made 201 when mapped) but I just want it to feel like a 200bhp na engine in a small car.

I feel like the only way would be to ditch the management, put it on throttle bodies with an actual cable throttle.

Thanks for the drive @Big_Steve_T

The 182 is perfect, the upgrades it has have really given it more of that renault sport feel. It's fun and quick to drive, feels nice and precise and very willing to make ground even mid corner, the whole package is great.

The Raider though probably just as quick felt a little bigger and woolly/wooden though very very flat and precise in the corners. Didn't seem as involving. I think I said it on the day, a little German....

Was great to have a drive in both back to back, thanks again for letting me have a play 💪🏻😁
