Bit of afternoon painting.....

Thought I'd get around to a little bit of painting in the engine bay, today......

Not the first to do it, by any means, but it looks a bit better than dull the silver(ish) colour showing through the plastic cover.

I used that Halfords Very High Temp. spray paint (rated to 500C, iirc), so hopefully it should last. Next stage is to paint over the 'RenaultSport' lettering with the same colour. I'm still in two minds as to whether removing and spraying the injector rail is a bit too much?

Also need to get those grubby grease marks off my cover now! ;)

Think it looks quite smart mate.

Cheers Mikey :D

It was the masking up that took the longest. I went totally OTT with it - covering up the headlights, battery unit, front bumper, wings and anything else that could have received a bit of overspray!

Worth it for peace of mind though...

looks good... however the engine cover will wear the paint away where it touches the metal in no time at all.

engine covers better off in the bin anyway.

Bugger - that had crossed my mind, tbh. It does actually look quite good with the cover off too, so it may come off anyway.

Cheers for the warning! :)

Would look better with a few more bits done that colour, Just looks a little bit random at the moment!

I think the 172 looks a mess with the cover off. GDi's demo car looked ok, with the painted cam cover and plenium tho.

that looks smart. I am thinking of doing a similar thing - Black Engine cover, Silver Plenum and ports, Black Renaulsport - I'll probably use the tinned VHT stuff though.
Anyone know where I can get the 2.0L 16v badges from?

Is that just spray directly on, or did you have to prep anything first?? Just thinking about doing something to mine :)

go over it with a strong degreaser thoroughly, make sure its 100% dry then paint.

I would be tempted to paint by hand rather than spray. The surface is textured anyway so a 100% smooth finish isn't required.

I think a satin black would look better than the matt black too :)

looking good! problem is with taking the cover off completly is that because you've painted it black will kinda blend in with the rest of the engine bay. I'd leave it with the cover if possible. Loving the polished lettering too :)

Looking good matey

Cheers Mossy! A bit better than when you saw it on Friday night, eh? :)

Nice work!

How did you tape the letters up out of interest? Looks very crisply done.

I didn't tape the letters up specifically, m8. They got painted too. All I did was let the paint properly dry (the warmth of the engine helped!) and then got a small block of wood with some fine sandpaper wrapped around the edge. The raised edge of the lettering polished up quite cleanly and I wanted the semi-brushed look rather than a total perfect polish. To be fair, it was my dad who did the most of that - I did about 5% of it....lol!

PMSL! I did try Maz! I went checking the air in the tyres at Asda on the way to my parents. No stranded women this time......... bugger! ;)

Praise from The Master. I feel really honoured! :D

I'll probably be leaving the cover on now Middo - like you say, it would be a sea of black under the bonnet otherwise....
