bit worried!

Had the new 172 bout 3 weeks now only done about 700 miles cos i have a works van. Went out 2nite to try an build up the miles an i had a few people flash me from behind so i pulled over thinkin my rear lights not workin but could find no problem but wot i did notice was a crackle an pop noise comin from the exhaust!! it really sounds like rice kripies only louder obviously. Wot could it be?? the car is goin in next wed for a new window seal should i trust them to road test it an listen out 4 it??

When you pulled over, did you stop the engine? If so, that noise is probably the exhaust cooling down!!! Sounds good dun it! If the engine was running, you probably wont here it as much so you may be on about something completely different!!

No i left the engine runnin, it was the clunkin you get after a good boot it really was crackle an pop!!

its the exhaust system reacting to the heat.mine used to do it but since i fitted a sports exhaust it stopped.must be the type of metal renault use.

check with the car on, took mine back after a week because the brake lights stayed on all the time, tool them two seconds to sort it, never told me what caused it tho, been fine ever since

I hear crackles from mine when Im getting out of the car. I then have to put my missuss car on the drive behind mine.

As Im doing all this, the car is still playing table tennis with itself !!!





So this is normal, to do with exhaust???

cheers folks! been out in again 2nite an it dint happen so sorted i suppose. Still unsure bout the lights tho. dint get flashed 2nite but then i only nipped to the chippie. think its just gonna be summat to keep an eye on.

Well the crackle an pop came back earlier so i Got my mate a mechanic to have a listen. He reckons its where they weld the exhaust a bit has come off inside an is jumpin round. Just needs the exhaust removin an shakin out. Will get renault to do it on wed i think!
