BJ the Sliver PH1 Renault Sport Clio 172

The rack bushes are quite easy to do once you've done a set. I went for OEM because there weren't any Polyflex bushes for the rack when I looked.

It's quite a strange feeling when they are worn, because the car still has loads of grip, it just feels really really vague. Almost like its floating along the road.

Best thing I ever did to that car was to renew the rack bushes.

Thank fook ive been saying that about mine for a while it feels floaty but handles like fook still , guess i know what i need order nice one !! lol

My turbo was absolutely horrific for it when I first got it, the bushes were TOTALLY shot and the previous owner (aydon182 on here) hadnt noticed.
Once turned into a corner and loaded up it still had loads of grip as all the play was moved to one side by the load, but initial turn in was horrible, and literally the steering wheel could be in one position in a straight line after a right hander and then you go round a left hander and when you straighten up the wheel was in a different position again.

Sorry mate I cant remember now, but give Adam (who I assume everyone has now realised is the most reliable renault parts guy in the uk, lol) a ring and he will understand you.

To check it, jack the car up on one side (or lift it on a ramp and get someone to hold one wheel so one wheel still has resistance) and then rock the steering wheel side to side, if the rack moves like this, then its your rack mounts that are gone:

i'll take a look when its next on the ramps :)

You basically need the rack bushes to be seeing load, which means you either turn the steering wheel and hold a road wheel straight, or vice versa.

So if you are on your own on a ramp, leave the steering lock on (so the steering wheel cant turn) and try and turn the road wheel, and that should show movement in the rack.

I put the 438's in today and replaced the rocker cover bolts for some stainless steel cap heads to keep it looking clean and bolted the bodies on.

Looking good so far mate. Shall I bring some dirty clothes up to give you a hand Monday evening?
Or are you going to be onto clean stuff like mapping by then anyway?

Not just for anyone sadly mate, got a friend who deals with them a lot who's helped me out before but it's really hard for him to get stuff off his books so not really something I can ask for someone else. Sorry :(

They do come up from time to time secondhand. Not Adam frequently as the at power ones though it would appear.

Nice work Mike, will be awesome once finished.

Will certainly sound the part, but I bet he ends up regretting not going turbo, its only going to be a bit quicker than it was with the RS2 and 197 cams on there really no its bodies and 438, where as a turbo would totally transform it.

That said, at least it will be simple and should be reliable and if anything goes wrong its only a standard bottom end to sort, and anyway IIRC he still has a forged turbo engine sat there thats been built already so I guess he can always swap to that later on!
