blowing on decat joint?

  Ph1 T
Right i bought my yozza system from fred and had it fitted by himself about 6 months ago decided against the decat at the time, anyway just before xmas decided i wanted a yozza decat and thanks to mike (meek_racing) i got one pretty much new condition,

got the decat fitted by a 'specialist' exhaust garage apparently, had the car in for its mot the other day the guy told me it was blowing from the joints and the reason was because the seal had blown out not set correctly so had it back to the exhaust garage today they re sealed it but as he gave me the keys back said 'the decat doesnt fit the system correctly thats why it was blowing but weve re sealed everything for you sorry' i replied with the whole system is the same make so should fit spot on shouldnt it and he said yeah but there all made arent they..

guessing he means stuff can always go wrong which suppose could just dont believe him tbh

surely the yozza decat should fit absolutely perfect?

Sort of related, my Yozza (cat-back) was blowing from the same join, so went in 2 weeks ago to have the seal done (from a local garage), and noticed yesterday it was blowing again.

Not sure what to do now, I need to go back but also wondered if it was common!

I think mines the garage making excuses surely the decat would fit snug as its all part of the yozza sport system

A new fitting kit and a touch of rtv sealant will sort it
is it a proper yozza decat you have fitted

there was a dodgy batch made up, too short basically and the flange hadn't been cut back, which JP did f**k all about sorting (another reason they dropped me, i moaned too much apparently!), unfortunatley nothing i can do anymore

grind the sticky out flange off and try again

Never sorry mate love the sound 2 much best mod I done to my clio was that system and decat from Fred :)

tbh i didnt even realise it was blowing slightly was the mot bloke that told me, suprising i didnt notice with how quiet the yozza is and all that :p

JP know about it (i argued with them for weeks about it, i only found out when i fitted one myself) They say "that's what we've been selling for years" and couldn't be bothered to do anything about it

speak to k-tec as you're under warranty!

Fred doesnt supply them anymore, and I can't imagine Fred wanting to contact JP. Ktec took the contract from Fred, so send all the problems to them. K---Tec deserve it :)

My exhaust is blowing slightly on cat-back connection, I'm getting it sorted Saturday hopefully. Is this something you could sort out Fred as I was going to head over yours if I couldn't get the local man to do it.

Very annoying though as I can constantly hear it. :-(

I had to grind the flange back on mine.
Regarding OP, just get a new Genuine Renault Manifold > cat Gasket kit with spring bolts, and make sure the flange is ground down.

See my thread:
http://www.cliosport.net/forum/show...gt-Cat-Fitting-Kit-Help-Order-of-nuts-washers

Though bit gutted reading they were also shorter, Could also explain why mine doesn't sit out from the bumper at all. :(

read it mate but it doesnt say how you sorted it out just about the problem itself

See here how on the cat the gasket is extruding from the end, so when bolted on seals the join,
whereas on the decat the gasket was sitting flush/slightly inside the lip?

Basically used an angle grinder and grinded down the lip until it was flush with the flange bit with the holes in it.
So then the gasket extruded out like it does on the cat and the gasket sat flush with the manifold joint when bolted on.

Haven't got any pics of it grounded down I don't think mate.

If you call Ktec tomorrow, let us know how you get on, if indeed they are shorter than they should be, meaning the exhaust doesn't sit out very much from the bumper like it should.

Edit: Got a pic of it fitted once the lip was ground down, as you can see, you can see the gasket, whereas before you couldn't

will let you know what they say james apparently the will serve the warranty though even though was bought from fred. i live f'ing miles away though. may just have to do what youve done mate

Yea I live quite far away too. Although they should just send us a new one, if its shorter than should be.
But yea, if you own an angle grinder or know someone with one, its easy. Just grind it down. Then again I did fit the exhaust myself, so knew what I was doing.
Also make sure you use a new fitting kit so get a new gasket and springs bolts.

obviously we will have to send it back and in my case i have nothing else to put on no cat anymore so think ill just have to sort it myself hopefully like you say will do it easy, where did you get the new kit from mate? and how much

Direct from Renault. Was ~ £27 iirc. Only get a genuine one. All the others are rubbish.

Part no: Cat to manifold gasket kit - 6000073668

If you haven't kept your cat what you going to do MOT time?!
Fixing it is easy. Just need an angle grinder and metal grinding disk. Put decat in workbench/clamp and grind away till its flush.
As long as your problem is actually what I had and you actually have got a dodgy decat.

passed its MOT friday last week friendly station :)

ill get it off and have a look this week want to get it sorted this week as ive got oulton park next friday

Lucky guy!

Yea just get under it and have a look. You'll instantly see if the lip hasn't been ground down. See the pictures above.
Oha and these:

Before, two flanges sitting flush. Wrong :

After, flanges sitting apart with gasket showing. Right.:

Did you contact Ktec at all mate?

no mate didnt get round to it. im going to sort it my self as i cant return it as nothing to replace with so will have a go at sorting it this weekend. is yours spot on now.

i havent checked if mines still blowing after i had it re sealed monday will have to check

Yea mine is completely fine now. Although to be fair they're never ever perfect on Clio's apparently lol.
Although Yozza doesn't stick out very far, and Fred did mention something about the wrong batch being shorter, so I've asked another member to measure his, find out if indeed mine is any shorter.
If it is, might get on to Ktec myself.
