Before I start I’ll get the financials out of the way as with this been CS that’ll be the main talking point:
List Price of car without options - £39790
List Price of car with options - £49260
Price paid - £39940 (£40k for a diesel 3 series OMG et al….)
Discount – 19%
PCP Deal
£0 Deposit
£559.17 over 48 months
GFV of £17k
3.9% APR
Now that is out of the way I can get on to how I ended up ordering this car. As some of you will know late last year I was working in China for a period, on my return I was hospitalised and in a pretty serious state for a few days. Things like that have an odd effect on you and I’ve come out of it with a different view on life. My current company car deal was coming to a close, and as a goodwill gesture (read as don’t sue us) the company I work for have allowed me to opt out of the company car scheme and instead fund whatever I’d like to buy (to an extent), as long as it fitted into the company guide lines of having 4 doors and being respectable.
Moving out of the company car scheme also allows me to go back to using diesel from my father’s business so that’s a huge bonus as I only pay him a fixed rate of £150 a month for fuel (I currently use on average £400/month).
So the criteria were set:
4 door
Diesel
Quick
Useable all year in all situations
Reasonable Servicing
No more than £600 PCM.
From those the short list was:
BMW 335d X drive (Bought)
Porsche Macan (Long lead times and no discount)
Audi SQ5 (Just didn’t like it)
Range Rover TDV8 L332 (Loved it, but servicing is mental)
A5 3.0 TDi (Was a bit Meh)
C350 CDi (Old model now, new 350 not out till late 2014)
Porsche Panamera TDi (Amazing but so expensive)
In the end I went for the BMW as it was:
Cheapest
Fastest
Better Spec’d
4 wheel drive was a bonus
Servicing package for 60k miles was £400
Best PCP rate at 3.9%
Also it’s not too in your face which is handy in my line of work, as it has to look ok on a farm one week, and then look fine outside an embassy the next week.
Also did I mention the speed…. f**k me its quick. 313bhp really pulls in Diesel form!
Here are the V box Readings from one…
10mph 0.66 s
20mph 1.23 s
30mph 1.90 s
40mph 2.64 s

She goes.
Remarkably it also returns just over 40mpg….
Spec of mine is:
Exterior:
Mineral Grey
Interior:
Coral Red Dakota Leather
Brushed Aluminium Trim
Hi gloss Black Finisher

Visibility package (Adaptive Xenons)
Comfort Package (Cubby holes and split rear seats etc)
Optional equipment:
