BMW are weird...Why they insist on creating these models that effectively show up the ///M brands is beyond me! The new M3 is going to have to be seriously good to top this as an all rounder! HoHum!

If the F10 M5 is anything to go by in comparison to the E60 M5 then Im sure the new M3 will be a cracker.
Its also the first time that the range topping power output of an none ///M has come from a Diesel. 335i = 306bhp. 335d = 313bhp.
I'm surprised they didn't lift the 335i to ~330hp just to put it slightly in front.. The output of it hasn't budged since the E90, whereas the 335d has gained around 30hp.
There isn't really a good reason to get the 335i unless you really hate diesels, really want a petrol, or want rwd...

So why would you go for the i over the d? Apart from the obvious fuel difference, surely the 335d is the better car all round?
Can't be many left these days, especially in the context of leasing a new BMW. Not like many people doing so go drifting in them or even on trackdays. Some people demand RWD and hate diesel.
What is the weight difference, by adding the X drive? And is it "smart" system like Quattro or permanent?
Around 100kg.
60:40 split biased to the rear normally. Can go to 90:10 either way.

In terms of refinement, petrol still has an advantage. If the money doesn't matter, petrol engines are more enjoyable.
Bar the tiny rattle on start up, if you didn't have a rev counter you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between a 335i and a 335d now.
The huge surge of torque gives it away on the D in my opinion, the petrol cant compete with that.
Could the op or anyone else explain this to me please. My mate has the 335d and it is imo a quick car. However it doesn't feel as quick as you would expect, given the amount of torque it has. I was lead to believe that the more torque you have, the more you feel the acceleration. His doesn't exactly wrap your cheeks around the headrest if you get me... any ideas?
Depends how you drive it.
In gear has a lot of pull.
Pin in it and use all the rev range and it doesn't actually feel quick, but it is. With the new ZF auto it just feels like it's one long gear.
It probably hasnt been remapped yet, they arent quite as torquey until you do that.
Sorry forgot to say it is still standard with 430 ft/lbs of torque. Would you expect that kind of torque to pull very hard?
It does pull hard but they are geared quite tall, they are very heavy, and being so smooth its easy to miss quite how quick they are going anyway TBH unless you stare at the speedo.
Depends what you are comparing them too, next to my turbo clio they may as well be a pushbike, but compared to a normal 172 they are quicker and for such a heavy comfortable car that does such good economy thats impressive IMHO.
I am in no way knocking them as I love my mates car and love the op's new car, I just expected to feel the torque more. They kind of waft you down the road and it seems effortless. Yeah on a run you can see over 50mpg. Crazy.
The waft is the hidden gem. You're doing 3 figures before you put the radio on. The Clio shakes at 70mph.
It's not supposed to thrill, it's got a heated steering wheel FFS!
