You can't defend the BMW's performance against a ZO6. They're faster than Ferrari 430s too, and what.. 1/2 the price ?? Plus so many bolt ons.
It's one of the only good all round USA cars, though it's not a BMW, and 6th is silly.

I love yank muscle, but there was a reason they had to use whopping engines in their cars.
It took a ford falcon to beat the 1.6 cortinas with 120bhp.........and even then it was only occasionally.
Then there were the ETCC days where bmw's, alfas, fords (capri/escort), christ even opels were miles ahead of the yank tanks. Infact, in 1970 the highest placed american car at spa was a 6.5ltr camaro directly behind an escort, a 2 places behind a 1.3 alfa GTA junior. And we know spa is a power track.

but this handles and doesnt fall apart like a Corvette.
11.6 is poor for a 600bhp super car, but you are missing the point, this is a 4 Door executive saloon lol!

The ZO6 isn't 600bhp, and 11 seconds is a fast time for a stock car. I would put my money on a Z06 against an M5 everytime.
Mental cars and cheap too!! Only US car I'd consider.

Back in the late 50's and all the way through the 60's up until the early 70's ( fuel crisis ) America built these vehicles in mass production - way before anybody else, it was the Pontiac GTO which John Delorean designed and built that started what we now know as the "muscle car era" with this car - lightweight family sedan with a powerful V8 engine ( what BMW and Audi are doing now )
And as for Ford cortina's and opels ?? ......Ever heard that phrase "Horses for courses" ?? Yank muscle was built for there main motorsport - drag racing. You get a MK1 lotus Cortina or a BDA powered cortina and take it down the qtr against Dick Landy's factory altered wheelbase Dodge 426 Hemi - it would get its arse kicked left right and centre. So when these 289 powered Falcons were giving the Euro boxes a thrashing it was a testimant as to what they were capable of with the correct suspension set up. To be honest only a small percentage of Yanks were into circuit racing - the majority preferred Drag racing and still do to this day. And at least Yank stuff turned up at european events !! - you didnt get any mini's, alfa's or opels at race meets in the states back in the mid 60's.
And when the Yanks did wanna put there minds to it they built a proper circuit racer to prove ( and piss off Ferrari after he refused to sell his company to them ) that they could win European styled racing events. Between 1966 to 1969 they won the "Le Man 24hr" endurance race 4 times on the trot with the GT40. So when they put there minds to it they can clean up.

I know Race Corvettes are always winning etc etc, but thats racing, here we are talking about a car you can go 5 up comfortably with all your luggage to the ring, Then ste a blistering lap, and drive home in comfort!
And IMO, you simply cannot mention an american "high performance family saloon with rear wheel drive and a high power V8" in the same breathe as its European rivals, yes the American cars are 50% the price but that shows!
The only thing close to an M5 from across the pond is the Crysler 300C SRT-8, and look at the state of that! Fisher price interior, doesnt corner and despite havign a 6.1 litre V8, "only" puts out 425bhp!
Yank cars are nothing with out their Cubic Capacity. Give any other car manufacturer an NA 6.1 V8 to play with and it will put out alot more than 425bhp!

I wasnt commenting on the Z06, I was merely saying that although 600bhp is an immense amount of power, this isnt in a light weight carbon super car, its in a saloon!

The fact america has 6 litre 100 horse power engines in their daily run abouts shows what they think of this "green world" we're meant to be living in, and as long as fuel price is rediculously cheap, why pay more for a high tech diesel ??

Are you american Matt? I must say i dont mind the Corvette's. A mate used to have one and we did donny in it and it wasnt at all bad, however we got licked by our other mate in his evo 6...and there was a m3 csl there and also a 911 turbo that also handed our arse to us, this however maybe due to Alex aka Beany only having use of one arm and it being a 4speed auto.
I was impressed by its handling to be honest as id only heard bad things about them, but for me everytime its still a euro car...unless of course its "Eleanor"......

in al lfairness they all cost more than the vette.
Love Yank muscle hence the reason theres gonna be both a C6 Vette and a New Mustang on my drive. Mustang is gonna be my daily driver Corvette is not mine but will be taking it out occasionally.
But some of your views on here are just so biased and incredibly wrong. If you have not driven a corvette drive one and then say they handle badly before you comment. And if you drive one where the leaf spring has been dumped in favour of a coilover system there amazing.
What I am happy about though is that Chevrolet are brining the new Camaro to the UK in RHD. And that is a great looking car and 400bhp as standard.
