Trying to ascertain what’s let go tonight at brands.

Motor feels fine.

Noticed tipping in to Graham hill some smoke out the back of the car, upon exit down the back straight, the smoke became a huge plume! And started coming through the vents inside the car as well.
Was rather spectacular 😂 annoying as well as the car was awesome !

Pulled off immediately. Not really sure what it is, I originally thought either the PAS or the brake fluid had shat itself, but they felt okay on the way home.

However, I do now have a bit of a noisy gearbox…. Under load at lower speeds it sounds like a dog box wine from a rally car in 5th predominately but also a little on 3rd…

Any thoughts? I fear the gearbox may have shat itself or the diff ?

Barely use 5th a brands….

Exhaust has shifted as well somehow 🤦🏽‍♂️

Can't be that bad, it still works and you drove it home, in my experience when Clio's break they go home on a flat bed.

It was pissing out much more prior tbh.. I need to get it up on a ramp.

I don’t think anything mechanical has gone because I can get all gears etc..

Very odd. And very spectacular. Race control thought the motor had exploded. The cloud of smoke was seriously impressive 😂 like an old locomotive peddling down the back straight

Did you give the oil a sniff test?

Easy to tell between engine and gear oil.

I was going to say possibly a hole or seal failure in the box. The smoke will have been the oil blowing onto your exhaust. The whining is probably the sound of the gears through lack of oil. Off to @NorthloopCup for a rebuild and a diff me thinks.

I did at the track… but I find hot gear oil to be misleading.

Now I’m home, there’s more, but only slight (probs run dry) and it does smell more like box oil to me now tbh

Or I’ve had a few that have broke a tooth off the sun gears in the diff, they’ve then got trapped between the casing and the diff body and broke the casing.

End result is the same.

I’ll have a look and see if I’ve got a spare bell housing half of the casing.

My mate who welds them up for me always looks at me like I’ve walked in his house on Christmas Day and pissed all over his kids when I roll up with a jc5. 😂😂

It's a clio, they all leak oil anyway 🤷.

His all leaked out on track, he probably drove home with an empty gearbox.

I thought the same, something must have hit it from the outside, if it was internal it wouldn't have got home under its own power.

Mechanical stress more than likely. My mates did this and was just metal fatigue. I suppose until it’s opened we’re just guessing.

Only just read this - sorry.

Gearbox dumped its guts in its entirety at the track. It wasn’t leaking anymore and hasn’t leaked since. Dry as a bone. Most of it vaporised on the exhaust.

Drove it home at about 30mph and the box sounded like a race box. It’s trashed.

I am a biker myself and wouldn’t drive something that’s pissing oil out everywhere.
