Bubbling Paint!

  Was a Clio 1.8 16v

Rear quarter panel, above rear wheel. 2 bubbles about an inch wide each and a smaller one. Does the whole panel need repsraying if i get the rust sorted?

Have tiny rusting on edge of 1 door and the bonnet. Im just gonna rust treat them & touch them both up.

Any one know how much itll cost me for the bubbling or can give me any advise? Thanx

Mine had bubbles and was going to cost £80 for it to be sanded down and fillered and sprayed. Ended up that it had rotted more than i looked and so i got a new arch welded on. Cost £120 in totall

It was done by a mate but i wouldnt expect to pay over £150 for a new arch.

It wasnt bad at all. It was about a inch squard part of bubbling. But it was starting to spread. The guy who done it recomended a new arch as it is only £40 more and so you know the rust wont come back.

If you sand down, treat and filler it will slowly come back!

after owning many minis for quite some years the only way to get rid of rust is to cut the affected metal out and weld in new metal other wise it will come back.

Even if you treat it, its still an older wing so you might as well get a new 1 and have it fitted at the same time.

It didnt cost me any extra to have mine fitted on labour to just having it sanded down (or cut out) filler etc. The only extra expense was the arch itself which was £37 or somthing like that.

If you treat it etc then i would expect it to be back within 2/3yrs where as a new arch has yrs before it will come through again.

the R5GTT i have now.. the paint bubbled under both rear side windows about 2inchs wide both sides... he thought it was rust... so scrapped the paint off... and found there was no rust at all.. just the paint had bubbled... so waiting on respray to get it all nice and smooth again!

take it to a good cheap bodyshop and ask them to have a look at see what needs doing!

From a bodyshop i would expext to pay £100 if no arch is needed or £150/175 if arch is needed

anti oxident or oxidation will slow it down but it will not stop the rust even if you remove all traces on the affected metal it will still come back after about a year if your lucky in my experiance. a body shop would explain it better.

If you get it for that your doing well I reckon!

You do need to cut out the rust completely to get rid of it though. Anti Oxident agents are all and well untill the paint chips or cracks. Better just to have a new section put on.

The above prices arent bad at all and if you can get a A1 job done for £200 including new panel then go for it!

As i said i had mine done by may mate (is a professional) for i think around £120. This was a new arch welded on. The job is superb and i am more than happy with it. Nick R saw it the day i got it back and was well impressed with the job.

this is tru, i work for a bodyshop so hardly ever pay for work on my car and when i do it aint alot lol

we charge 250 quid for a days labour, ive never done this sorta thing (more acustomed to flush tailgates and delocking etc) but i would geuss at about 3-4 hours labour then painting on top.
